I, on the other hand, love Simonson's art. I know when to keep my yap shut. Occassionally. You guys like him enough, and I've seen so little of his work, that I'd need to look at a lot more before having an opinion.

Verily, I hast read but one parchment fable of Odinson. And I wasn't that bothered with it.
Actually, I fib. I've also not long read the very first couple of Thor appearances. I wasn't that taken with those either.
I might have a look for those Star Wars issues though.

Verily, I hast read but one parchment fable of Odinson. And I wasn't that bothered with it. Was it from Simonson's run? Actually, I fib. I've also not long read the very first couple of Thor appearances. I wasn't that taken with those either. Nor I. I'm not a big fan of anything by Marvel from the early 60s that isn't plotted and drawn by Steve Ditko. I might have a look for those Star Wars issues though. Good start.

Thor brings out the best in many of the creators that have worked on his Marvel adventures. There are certainly exceptions, but I think all of the possibilities borne of Thor being of two different worlds tend to excite their imaginations. Kirby and Lee really laid a solid foundation for them.
Spidey has had a fairly high batting average with creators, as well. (I won't go into the gross mistreatments.) Whereas Thor inspires their imaginations, I think Spidey's creators are inspired by their deep love for the character.

I haven't liked all of Simonson's work but I thought his Beta Ray Bill story in Thor #337-340 was outstanding.

Cynthia Martin had the thankless job of following up Simonson on the Marvel Star Wars comic. She was pretty much his complete opposite, apart from also knowing a lot about how to compose a page to move your eyes where they ought to go. I liked her, too. (And damn but her Luke Skywalker was an absolute dreamboat.)

Cleome, I also like Cynthia Martin, for similar reasons to those which you listed. I've always wondered where her career might have gone if DC's War of the Gods event (which Cynthia was originally scheduled to contribute to substantially) hadn't been such an out-of-control disaster.

While I don't recall WotG being terribly memorable, I admit I'm curious as to why it was a "disaster".

The tie-ins didn't sync, the core mini-series went through a revolving door of artists, and the release schedule was in such disorder that it was impossible to follow coherently. As to the story itself, it was boring and cliche and wholly lacking the grandeur necessary to live up to its title, "War of the Gods."

The glam-rock/power-pop band Enuff Z'Enuff had a really great look, but their music did nothing for me. They were all dressed up with no place to go.

When I woke up this morning, I imagined it was Saturday morning and that I didn't have to go to work. Imagination causes more trouble than it's worth.

When I woke up, I thought it was Saturday until I read Cleome's post. Now I'm worried I'm just dreaming it's Saturday, and that I'll have to go to work.

The Days Of The Week is an on-point parody of late 20th Century soap operas and a recurring segment on SCTV.

One of my favorite sketches on SCTV featured Catherine O'Hara as Brooke Shields and Rick Moranis in full drag as Brooke's mother, Teri Shields.

Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy are both really good in Schitt's Creek as well.

"Good Thing" was a follow-up single to Fine Young Cannibals' big hit "She Drives Me Crazy".

I love "Good Thing." It was deliberately supposed to sound like early-60s R&B, so Roland Gift's vocal was much less mannered than on other songs of theirs I've heard.

My brother is 15 years younger than me. When he was little and saw the video for "She Drives Me Crazy", he said of the lead singer, "That man doesn't smile a lot." That memory has stayed with me.
