I thought there were plenty of things to like about the threeboot, especially in the beginning. With Bendis's run... well, I keep feeling like I'm trying to latch on to something positive to convince myself that I'm liking it, but at the end of the day, there's just a lot more negative than positive about it.
stile86, I wish to apologize to you if it came across as if I was upset with you for not liking parts of the Threeboot. Everyone has different tastes and I respect that.
I think sometimes I get just get frustrated with Legion fandom (and to a lesser extent Star Trek fandom) because it seems to be stuck in a paradox. Fans want new content, but there always seems to be complaints that the new content is not as good as the old content. Do people truly want new content then?
I know many of us (me included) were content with making fan fiction, but I don't want to see the Legion become a cultural relic.
No worries Emily, what you said was fine and I am sorry if my response came across at all aggressive. Not my intention.
I pretty much agree with you about different tastes and that being a good thing. I'm glad Threeboot worked so well for you and as I said I liked it too, collecting it right through to the end even if I felt much of the best had faded by then. I was actually disappointed when the Retroboot Legion started making an appearance while also finding it intriguing. It seemed to me that Johns was intent on restoring the entire DC Universe to where it was in the Bronze Age with Barry Allen, Hal Jordan and now the pre-Zero Hour Legion brought back. Still I enjoyed a lot of the elements he added to it.
I guess that's the point. New can be good and I like to see development and change in our characters. It's why I am a fan of 5YL. For that matter the character developmetn in the Levitz era is stilll much of what fans speak fo admiringly and character development cannot happen without change.
On a side note I have been enjoying the Start Trek show Discovery and don't mind the changes it is making and it's different tone to the Original Series and to the TNG/DS9/VOY period. I was watching a review during the First Season and the guy suddenly stopped, scribbled hair and beards on to the images of the Klingons and said "Aaah that feels much better!" I thought it was hilarious.
As others have said new can be good. I'm just a bit disappointed in the current new so far, not because it is different but because it just doesn't seem very good.
That leaves me in the quandry, do I support the current series because having some Legion is better than nothing or do I drop my support because it just doesn't appeal to me that much and then risk DC interpreting a lack of sales as a lack of support for any Legion? At the moment I am in the hang in there camp because every title has it's periods of lesser well written and can then still come out thriving. We'll see.
Bendis posted another update on his Instagram. A cast picture.

It's been a few hours, and I can now confidentely say that nothing will ever be as funny as what appears to be Querl's disembodied head in a dragon mech.
Every time I think I'm over it I see it again and the laughing starts all over.

Was Hyperbole Lad in one of the Legion group shots along with Entropy (Mano in disguise) Lad and Radial Tyre boy? It moved quickly from marketing into desperate pleading for readers to buy it.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
And then there's Acute Lass who gets tired of explaining that her name is not 'A Cute Lass.' But her brother, Obtuse Lad, really lives up to his name. Ugh, that guy.
