Close enough I think. First there was a small floating computer/droid referred to as "Monitor" that monitored his behaviour and second a beefy tough looking humanoid guard in case he went whacko. The guard frequently consults the Monitor as Brainy lays out to the Subs his plans and the Monitor responds with things like "Improbable but not outside normal parameters".

that was a great scene, then Star Boy and Gates team up to stop Validus (with Leviathan dissing them the whole time; Gates shooting back "thanks for the encouragement, nasshead!", and Leviathan amusedly saying "they actually did it!" at the end)

nope! The mom in question was being 100% truthful - she had no idea who fathered her child!
With Tinya, her mom Winema knew exactly who it was. Though she definitely didn't want him as a husband and father to her child anymore.
