I hope this is the right place to post these. I've been a RABID collector of superhero, comics, books, and memorabilia for as long as I can remember (I have a double car garage LOADED with comics that I've been collecting since I was 5) and for all that time, my favorite book has always been THE LEGION! Well ... for ages now, I've been wanting Mini Busts and Statues of the Legion ... but of course no one has ever seen fit to make them, so I decided to take the bull by the horns and design some myself ... I have a friend of mine that sculpts them for me ... let me know what you think ! Well here are the ones that I've managed to compete so far WILDFIRE: Wildfire is currently in casting, which is why he's still unpainted. MON-EL: I painted Mon-El myself ... I'm painting 2 more for some friends. DAWNSTAR Mini Bust: DAWNSTAR STATUE: The Dawnstar sculpts are still being finalized, but they should be complete in a few more days. The next pieces I'm going to have made are Karate Kid, Dream Girl and either Phantom Girl or Jeckie (I'm not sure which yet) .. then THE BIG THREE!! I hope you guys like them.

The Legion is my all time favorite, but I'm a fan of way more than just them ... I probably spend about 200 bucks a month just on comics. I'm also having the Perez era Titans done ... Starfire was the first, Raven is next, and I just finished the design for Kid-Flash. You can see a bunch of the stuff that we've done on my homepage.

Well it's not entirely my work, I design them but my friend sculpts them ... he's the real talent.

These are gorgeous! DC Direct needs to hire you and your friend IMMEDIATELY. Monel is perfect. I hope you'll do more full body statues. I know of at least one Legion Worlder who'll be totally wet over the Dawnstar statue. Any guesses who?

Well, since Capt. Cuckoo Bananas was on the boob tube tonight, I elected to lock myself up in my room and get some kits done ... I finally painted up another Mon-El for my collection and I think he came out even better than the first. Now I just need to glue him together .. but I snapped a few pics before I did ... I decided to tone down the gloss and shading and try something simpler with the base this time around. And even though I know no one will ever see it, I'll know it's there ... SO ... (sorry but this one is kinda blurry)

These are all wonderful! They have so much movement in them, unlike the regular action figures. It's also interesting that many of the bases for the mini-busts are individualized.

Excellent work. I like the Lantern symbol for Kilowag's base.
What material does your friend sculpt with?

They're made from various matierials but the figures are mostly made from Super Sculpey After they're baked they're like cement, the pieces are then molded and castings are made from them molds.

Wow Jesse, this stuff is absolutely incredible!!! DC is really missing out on some talent here, between you and your friend! Keep 'em coming!! I love that your attention to detail even included flight rings, like the one for Mon-El that is barely noticable (unless you are looking)!!
How long does the whole process take, from concept to completed piece (painted and all)?

Designing is the easiest and most fun part of the process. Sculpting, depending on the amount of detail involved could be a couple of days to a couple of months ... Dawnstar has been 4 months in just the sculpting because the sculptor has a FT job as well. Casting takes about a month or so and painting on a kit like Dawnstar will take about 12 to 15 hours. Painting on Wildfire and Monel was about 3 hours.
Next up will be Karate Kid in Mini Bust forum.
If anyone is interested in getting copies of the kits, let me know.

I'd love one myself, especially if you guys ever get around to doing Lightning Lad or even a set of busts of the Founders. What would it take to get a copy of one of the kits, like the Dawnstar one? I'd probably have a great time painting it (used to do my own greenware at one time). Acrylic paints work?

I make and extremely limited amount of copies of these pieces available as kits, it helps pay to keep the line going ... just send me a private if you want details. The next 3 mini busts in the line will be Shadow Lass, Karate Kid and Dream Girl .... after that we're going to do the founders (Cos, LL and SG)

say, do you do the commission work? If not, oh darn that's okay.
and also, would you be willing to sell them on Ebay? As similar to the guy who made T-shirts on legionnaires symbol like Timber Wolf, Sun Boy, Ferro Lad, and Ultra Boy - he sells them for 20 dollars....but I am sure that your work will cost more than that. I would like to *gulp* (guilty....) see you do with Dream Girl and Karate Kid (which version?) and buy them. *grin*
