I was thinking about Tarik (trying to remember if that collar he wore had a speaker or some such) but I decided that he spoke through the robot (not his own body) and the robot's voice came from its mouth.

Yes, Ibby is right! Projectra and Dream Girl were revealed to be rich snobs to Shadow Lass and Light Lass. All four were held captive, then snuck out using Projectra's abilities to solve four different crimes. After which they realized that the mastermind was a corrupt Science Police Officer.

The backup story was a surprisingly effective demonstration of their abilities

I remember that story fondly, and thought it was cool to showcase four of the female Legionnaires with somewhat more underestimated abilities (okay, maybe not Projectra, and not so much Tasmia).

LSH v4 111. M'Onel and Thunder were possessed by a xenophobic couple who had converted themselves into intangible life forms. They had already taken out Kinetix, Brainiac 5, Spark and Invisible Kid... Possessed Mon was charging right at Karate Kid, who used his training to redirect Mon towards the sun, hoping that the orange sun (which had already weakened Mon) would weaken him enough to shake the possession.

Of course, it worked. Karate Kid sort-of wanted to apologize for "trying to kill" Mon, though Mon thanked him before he could.
