Not that I don’t think it will be an actual possibility in a thousand years given where the cosmetics industry is already at, but having Legionnaires in ‘blackface’, ‘yellowface’, ‘whiteface’, etc. would probably be the absolute worst approach to take at the moment IMO.
Oh, I agree. I'd much rather they used people like Tyroc, Myg, Kid Quantum 2, Dragonmage, Danielle Foccault, XS, etc. than racebend previously white people anyway, for a similar reason.

Also, race is a lot more than just skin pigmentation. I don’t think minority readers looking for a character to identify with would consider a white character who’s just been painted to look like them an acceptable substitute.
There's also that. Garth and Ayla are *from another planet* as is Rokk. Changing their skin pigmentation doesn't really mean anything, when none of them are really representing 'black' or 'Asian,' so much as 'an alien that looks like a black or Asian human.'
I remember thinking much the same when the Threeboot introduced a black Star Boy, and, in his first appearance, pointed out that he was Xanthuan and couldn't process sugars, meaning that he was not even remotely 'representing' anyone of any ethnicity. It was like, 'ooh, diversity!' and then, 'snap, just kidding, he's just an alien that only *looks* like a black man!'
I guess I'm just salty that characters like Tyroc and Myg and Kid Quantum 2 and Dragonmage seem to get ignored or excised, in favor of racebending all the white dudes (some of whom, frankly, could use a rest and be retired for a bit, making room for some more diverse Legionnaires).

Can you imagine the controversy? People who get caught painting their skin to that of another race get named and shamed regularly in the media these days. For DC to seem to condone the practice...?

You're right, of course, but I still find myself weirdly fond of the idea of characters who treat race, gender, etc. as incredibly fluid concepts that could be altered at whim. Maybe an alien species?
For me it is simple, I have already decided. I will not buy the Bendis Legion . I'm going to stop buying all the DC comics titles (22 in total), because I don't like being scammed. I love The Legion since childhood, I grew up with it, but I am not going to buy this that only uses the names of my favorite characters to capture new readers. If DC comics does not respect those who have kept the business for more than 50 years, it is that they do not deserve to spend my money on them.
Rich J appears to be suggesting Black Lightning Lad was rejected by the higher-levels of DC editorial, Superman editorial (and Bendis?) deliberately ignored that, and that's the cause of the pulping (and they're now "stuck" with it because too many have seen it).
My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Whatever happened, this doesn't bode well for the relaunch as a whole. You'd think with all the time they've supposedly spent preparing this, stuff like that would've been cleared way ahead of time.
Naomi is joining Yoiung Justice in November, so scratch her off the list
Does the new character travel through time? I thought she was immortal had just lived through history 1,000 years. If so, there is no reason Naomi can't join YJ and still be on the list.
Gosh, not a lot of Latinx in the Legion, are there?
Lack of representation from India-Pakistan-Nepal, the South Pacific, or Australian Aborigines, either. Of course by the real 32nd century, most humans will look more-or-less Filipino.
Well, considering that we Filipinos are literally everywhere... I've met Filipinos living in locales from the Maldives to Iceland to Guam...
Another point who the Smart Bendis forgot.... In Supergirl Annual, the Emerald Empress planet of origen is Orando, with normal human beigs. And so... this zombie pink reptilian Princess Projectra is from the same planet Orando, or the new alternative and exclusive Bendis Universe?
People figured it out who it was on another message board via the hints and teases
There's *another* Legion messageboard? You mean I've been stuck here all this time... I can share more Legion World goodness to Faraway Lands?
That I do not know but there is a message board for dc/marvel collected editions with a Legion thread. Some clever folks took a line that was almost all blacked out that named the woman and was able to figure it out.

I wondered why Faraway Lad hadn't been around!

As m-em said, there are people who believe they have deciphered the identity of the mystery woman based on analysis of the blacked-out text, but nothing is confirmed.
Well there is also a pic of the mystery woman that includes a detail that makes it pretty certain to me. It is true that DC hasn't confirmed any of it but I think they purposely left enough clues to decipher who it was. Than again after the mess with Lightning Lad maybe I'm giving them to much credit, lol

Considering that BB&RS are supposedly writing the definitive eleven hundred year future history of the this universe, I tend to agree.

Oh now you’ve got me determined to work it out with the same clues too.
I was sure it was going to be Amethyst but now the name looks too long to be her. Unless she has a last name? The name looks like it is two words, the last of which begins “Th”. I frustratingly can’t work out what the last letter of that word is though. Or what the first letters of the first word are. Unless it begins with a “K”? And who’s a DC character with an “other life”?

Yeah, the pic does seem to be a pretty major clue as well.
Oh I hadn’t seen that but funnily enough I was just looking at a certain one of these pics while trying to find the one that M-EM was talking about and immediately thought it looked like her.
Yes she's definitely an odd choice if she's who we think she is
Funny enough, I also stopped liking her when that same writer started using her... prior to that she was one of those characters I would pick up ANY issue she appeared in
I had no idea she was immortal. But then, I've not been following DC for a while, and the immortality thing gets dropped in quite a bit. Form the text around the name, the character could be used in a different way entirely and this is just a bit of misdirection.

Ah, I forgot that. I was thinking of Klar's Mega List of immortals we already had, with so may that would fit the role. You'd think general health care in the DCU would be pretty good with the secret of immortality so widely available.

Is it just me or are Black Lightning's ….. ooops, I mean "Lightning Lad's" eyes two different colours??? If you look at the close-up on LSH #1 you can clearly see one eye is brown and the other is blue!
Ha! Maybe, just maybe Garth (and presumably his sister as well as everyone from Winath) has the ability to change pigment of their skin! You know, …...like a mood ring!??
Let the wild speculation begin!!!!!!!
