I forgive you. In tough times like these, it's all too easy to give in to the ugly side of human nature. What matters is that you now recognize that you shouldn't have done it, and you're taking responsibility. Go easy on yourself, Sarky, most people wouldn't give an action like yours a second thought if they had done it. Chalk it up as a learning experience.

So I read the first few issues of X-Men: Gold, hoping this would somehow be a resurgence of good X-stories.

Unfortunately, it was pretty crappy. Not terrible per se, but overall a pretty boring retread of stories the X-titles have done a hundred times before. The dialogue was forced and cliche, the usage of Kitty as leader was more about how trendy and cool they are rather than actually doing something interesting, the action was horribly plotted and horribly drawn, the colors were murky and...eh, why even go on? Is there any one left who remembers how to write a good X-Men story?

The X-Men just haven't been the same since they took all the homo-eroticism out of it. frown

all the times Wolvie acted all grumpy and tried to wreck Scott and Jean's relationship just to get Scott to notice him. When woul Scott open his eyes...ruby visor still on obviously.

There's always a part of me that wants the X-Men franchise to bounce back. So I usually dip in every time there's a revamp, then back out. I actually thought the two main X-Men books were decent this time around. Not great, but decent. I actually preferred X-Men blue, with the teen versions of the originals. I would not have expected that, but I did. I feel like X-Men gold has the potential to be a good old school X-Men book, but it isn't quite reaching it. I actually wasn't a fan of Syaf's art, so maybe this controversy will wind up being good for the book. We will have to see who settles in as the regular artist. Old Man Logan makes it feel too mired in recent events, but it is what it is. It's certainly going to make future readers who might try to read it as a standalone confused.

The Jean Grey solo Book was also intriguing. It feels like maybe it should've been a mini, but I will give it a few issues to play out and see what happens.

So ... I bought an X-Men book. I am a diehard X-Men fan. Chris Claremont raised me. Besides the wolves. But a while back during the Terrigan Mist cloud story line, I died ... hard.

However, I picked up Astonishing X-men 6 (2017). Because ... Mike Del Mundo. I think his art is extra beautiful. And this was an astral plane story that allowed him to do his imaginative thing. The story was fine, Shadow King, London under siege infected by a mind disease. Professor X is aboard.

I'm not a huge fan of anyone in this cast ... except maybe Psylocke who seems as usual the least ruthless of the bunch. (not saying much). Rogue, Mystique and Fantomex's astral forms looked especially cool.

Then... Phil Noto did issue #8 and I got that one!

I feel like this story would be a good done in three or four but there are lots of after effects that are lingering, which I think weigh it down instead of letting them move on to the next adventure. They all seem likely to betray each other for example.

I kinda like this wiley version of Prof X but I'm cringing at the thought of whenever he turns out to be evil, to be the shadow king, or starts shooting people again.

Next month is Paolo Siquera who is pretty good at the art IMHO and then following that is Lenil Yu, who I think has been phoning it in lately (I got the first of the Phoenix return of Jean Grey and his work was pretty sketchy). So we'll see ... Depending on the art and a quick skim at the CBS maybe I'll be following Astonishing X-Men.

A polished regular artist would be ideal ... or maybe some management of storyline that plays to the different artists.

btw I thought Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey #1 was pretty weird, there was a mystery of supernatural activity, I guess which we will find out is related to Jean's return but we have Old Scott, Young Scott and Young Jean around (plus Rachel Grey) so unless the art is spectacular, I'm gonna be confused.

I felt almost exactly the same on Astonishing X-Men. Didn't love anyone in the cast. (Rogue was my exception rather than Psylocke.) but I'm still really enjoying the story. The different artist every issue conceit seems like an odd choice for a book where each arc feels like a piece.

In light of Hickman's relaunch of X-Men, I have decided to revive this thread. I am really excited for this. Does Marvel have a comic streaming service like DC? If so, I got to figure out when to sign up.

Emily, there is a Marvel streaming service at their official website, but in my experience, it involves a lot of getting booted out and then having to long back in, over and over again.

Maybe they've finally fixed it, though. We can hope.

Isn't there a thread somewhere where someone was reading all the Marvel comics chronologically using the Streaming Service?

I have read that thread as well as the current terms and conditions, but I need to find out the current policy for new comics. Do I have to wait a month like on DC Universe? If so, I might be better off waiting for the trade since the relaunch starts late July.

The new slate of books in the relaunch are announced. Neither put off nor stoked. I assume the generic sound of the new setups is down to not giving away anything from House of X and Powers of X. At least I hope so.

Mixed feelings about the lineups. They made an effort to spread the big names around the various books and not to do excessive sharing. Wolverine and Jean Grey are we n both X-Men and X-Force, that seems to be it. As a result, there’s plenty of room for B-listers to pad out the teams. Some I care about, some I don’t. But there’s not a team that feels like the true flagship. Even X-Men is missing too many lynchpin characters to feel like THE core title.

Scott and Emma are in different books. It’s nice to see a classic New Mutants lineup. Of the biggies, only Cannonball and Magma are missing, and since they are searching for a missing member, I’m guessing one of them will turn up in short order. It also appears to redirect two VERY recently killed members. Like, one in the last 2-3 weeks.

So...Rahne is no longer dead? Is the other one Warlock? (Haven't been reading, but have seen some half-remembered spoilers.)

Rahme’s apparently back, and the other is Sunspot, who died in War of the Realms. Technically no sign of Warlock, but Cypher has a techno-organic arm and I guess I just kind of lump “Douglock” into one these days.

Speaking of the major X-Men, the only notable absences I caught were Xavier (unless the generic looking guy on the X-Men cover is him in his new body), Angel, and maybe Kitty. Marauders is led by a very piratey Captain Kate Pryde, and I can’t tell if she’s supposed to be “our” Kitty or not.

Literally the only unidentified figure I saw was the above mentioned guy who may be Xavier.

And, because I realized I should have included

It’s not in the solicitations, but it has been confirmed that the new Captain Britain is Betsy Braddock, who was recently returned to her own body. People are assuming the Asian Psylocke is Kwannon, but that part is conjecture.

Ha, love that team from the X-Men title.

Cyclops. His dad, Corsair. His (ex) wife, Jean Grey. Their AU future-kids, Cable and Rachel Summers/Gray. His brothers, Havok and Vulcan. It's like a Summers family outing!

And Wolverine, 'cause why the hell not. smirk

Everything presented at SDCC is beautiful. I am so glad I put my trust in Hickman.

As for Wolverine being in the Summers Family Reunion, there is a fan theory that he is Rachel's father since she doesn't look like Scott at all.

I didn't know about Betsy getting back into her own body. Never really cottoned on to the Psylocke persona.

Yeah it happened last year during one of those Hunt for Wolverine miniseries. Betsy became white again and Kwannon was brought back too.

Guys serious question. How is House of X supposed to be any different from any of the other attempts to shake the X-Men's status quo since House of M ruined everything. Why, because it's Hickman?

On that note, what did he even do to claim such a high ranking name in the comic book industry? Like, all I ever hear is his name but what was he attached to that made him popular? It couldn't be Secret Wars.
