Thank you for reviving the thread! I will post some more ideas in my notes. If any of these look familiar, it's because I'm trying some of the same ideas on fb to see if they stick.

Captain Fade
Homeworld: Mardru, now Mars
Age: 25
Background: The Mardru government has experimented with plant growth/control powers ever since the relative success of Chlorophyll Kid's powers. Unfortunately, the experiment did not go well with this child, and he is left with the power to cause organic matter to wither. He has been able to stabilize and nullify his powers through artificial means, but he is viewed as a pariah. He is a guard to Princess Amy, the daughter of Chlorophyll Kid and a monarch.

Polar Squire aka Alex Hyde
Homeworld: Tharr
Age: 15
Background: A Legion academy student who was "wrongfully expelled" and decides to become a mercenary on Avalon. He helps Dream Knight find his brother, Star Boy, who was falsely imprisoned by a local noble in exchange for getting him off the planet. Dream Knight tries to drop him back off at the Academy, but Bouncing Boy claims the boy lacks intelligence. Dream Knight and Star Boy agree to look after him until they can locate his family. He ends up saving a good portion of the galaxy (almost by accident) and writes a play about his experiences. To quote Africanus, "Thankless country, thou shalt not possess even my bones!"

Macrocode
Homeworld: Mars
Age: 15
Background: He is the secondborn son of Yera and Gim. However, after the death of his mother he and his family go into exile to a distant world in Durlan space. He can grow but cannot control when his power starts or stops, making life difficult and combat almost impossible. In school he used nullifiers and tried to focus on the computer sciences. He does some grunt work for the Durlan government before being sent to Earth as an unofficial ambassador.

Microcosm - More of a Substitute Anti-Hero?
Homeworld: Mars
Age: 20s?
Background: He is the firstborn son of Yera and Gim, but due to a biological quirk he was borne fully human. He doesn't possess any super-powers so he started training for the military. However, after the death of his mother he and his family go into exile to a distant world in Durlan space. Through a series of trials he becomes the leader of a mercenary group and seeks revenge against Cosmic Boy, who he holds responsible for Yera's death. He spends years in Khundia before going upon his mission of revenge. His mission is interrupted by a raid by Res-Vir of Daxam, and both sides put aside their differences to fight this mutual threat.

Much as I feel self-conscious monopolizing this thread, here are five of my creations whose names or powers sound absurd to begin with, but with a little thought, can be seen as potentially useful.

Clever Girl of Lumian
She’s smart.

Not a 12th-level intelligence like Brainiac 5, but then, she doesn’t have his walking-the-razor-thin-border-of-insanity problem, either. Good at games (and strategy), mostly right about most things (high-level detective skills), and with high “emotional intelligence” (non-psionic empathy) as well. Hard to trick or deceive. Not Batman-level or Luthor-level “magical smart”, either. Just really smart.

Fan Boy of Chikyuu
Master of fans.

In the same way that the Penguin is the “Man of One Thousand Umbrellas”. Or, similar to Captain Boomerang or Green Arrow, but with fans. Japanese War Fans. (Also called Fighting Fans)
This is the Martial Art of Tessenjutsu, as practiced by the ancient Samurai.
Japanese War Fans (Tessen) are constructed of thin metal plates, and painted to resemble ordinary paper fans.
They can be used as knives, shields, or shuriken.
There are actually a few different types of War Fans, but Fan Boy has created his own specialty fans as well. Kind of like Green Arrow’s trick arrows.
He hangs them from his belt, rather than having a quiver, as archers do.

Donkey Lass of Asellus
Donkey-caller.

She is capable of summoning (conjuring) a she-ass named “Mistress Jenny”.
Just an ordinary, flesh-and-blood, thousand-pound donkey five feet high at the shoulder.
Who obeys her every command.
And if killed, can be de-summoned, then re-summoned again, so effectively immortal.

The Lavender Leotard of Xanthu
Wears a lavender leotard.

Rich kid goes to Daxam. Has a full-body leotard made, including hood, gloves, and socks, made out of lavender Daxamite wool. The front of the hood is made of thinner material, which allows him to see and breathe. You know, like those full-body spandex Hallowe’en costumes.
Under a yellow sun, the Daxamite wool absorbs virtually any energy-- including kinetic energy-- directed against it, sort of like a force-field.
This makes him invulnerable to any physical or energy-based attack, although he can still drown, or suffocate.
He also wears an industrial-strength flight belt, meaning he not only can fly, but carry an elephant with him as well.

Sylvester of Myar
Produces carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide used to be called Air Sylvester. “Sylvester” can alchemically produce carbon dioxide from vacuum. Lots of carbon dioxide. Clouds and clouds of it. Invisible, or cold white mist. Even blocks of dry ice. He is like a super-fire extinguisher.
The stuff dissipates back into nothingness after a while.

Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

Ooh, I like Fan Boy! Very punny, but also cool in that he uses a weapon less traditional than the katana or whip or sword or bow for his hero-ing. I've toyed with the idea of characters using a falchion or naginata, just to be different, but the war fan is a great idea, since it's got offensive and defensive potential, and is way more 'out there' than a hammer or axe or shield.

Seconded on Fan Boy, I love a good weapon gimmick! smile

Also I feel like Donkey Lass would be one of those characters who appears in the background once or twice and becomes a part of Legion lore forever laugh

I'm back from vacation and will add something to this thread.

Lunar Lad
Desmond and Dennis Thebit are a set of twins with powers related to planetary satellites--commonly referred to as moons by those of Terran descent. Desmond has gravity powers while his brother Dennis has hydrokinesis (control over water). Desmond was able to gain quick admission into the Legion of Super-Heroes, but his brother was less fortunate. They told him that some planets lack water or the volume of water necessary to be an effective fighter and he was rejected. He had no desire to go back to his normal job, so he traveled far and wide in search of work. After being rejected by one mercenary group after another, he was advised to apply to be security guard at a temple. They accepted his application because the temple is surrounded by vast pools of waters that tourists occasionally fall into.
