25. Doll Man - something about the expressions is priceless and the cement splashing is a good effect. And still 52 pages!
26. Dragon Lance - lovely, cold, great balance with the bears.
27. Beyond - She sure looks great for having been buried with a stake through her heart and I like how the grave robber is scratching the earth trying to get out and slipping back.
28. Green Lantern - there's a story there that looks more interesting than the too-much-green arrow and hand. She's the sapphire that ate the lantern.
29. The Strangers - what do you call that - a matte finish? More interesting visually than the single decoration on Outsiders, although the popcorn doesn't look too good.
30. Attack - very dynamic. They didn't even need the Booooooom!
31. All Star - more fun than chemistry class. The wooden box says honky tonk and I'd like to read the lyrics.
32. Flaming Carrot - because fibre is better for you than candy. The Care Bears cover gives me an over-sweet taste just looking at it.

29. BatO. That could be the reflection of some action. The other one is static by comparison.
30. Blackhawk. Realistic action pose and a nicer background colour.
31. All-Star. While allowing children to play with volatile alchemical experiments is smiling fun, I want to know why Hawkman has disapeared. Was Despero's chess set made from the piano?
32. Flaming Carrot. Corny but lighter than the dark moral tale of entertainment saturation the care bears hints at. I had no idea it was such a mature book.

29. BATO.30. ATTACK. All right, Mr. Lictenstein, I'm ready for my cover.31. BATMAN. All-Star title is intriguing and the Atom makes me laugh, but what's up with Hawkman? Is that a mistake? I suppose looking like a ghost could be part of the story, but how is that related to crimes set to music? 32. CARE BEARS. Because I expect there would be lots of material in what is probably a heavy-handed tale of "too much of a good thing".

33. Tip Top. Not bothered by either, but hopefully one of the hundred funnies in tip top will be decent.
34. Baffling. I like the lab details. "Run, Lois!" "Ok!" "What?! Don't leave me Lois!"... "Lois". I'm curious on who's spiriting Mera away through the portal. Is that back to her home I wonder?
35. Sensation. While Wondy ould have crossed that line anywhere else, it looks as though she'll make it. Joe, has superglued those kids' feet to the tracks. Seeing the Freedom Train, doesn't mean from underneath it Joe!
36. Iron Fist. The She-Hulk caption just gets in the way. Nice clouds and use of Rand company sign tying it into the story on Iron Fist.

33. Tip Top - but what's the joke? That even if you wear a helmut, you can get whacked on the nose? I'm just not a fan of Popeye - or Little Henry.
34. Baffling Mysteries - the plant monster looks better than the sea creature to me and the blonde woman looks sorta happy that the guy is ensnared. What's up with that? But Mera looks lovely on Aquaman.
35. Sensation - much better action.
36. Iron Fist - bold colours and the figures' pose win out but I like the text on She-Hulk.

33. KING COMICS. The art's a little better, but this is no great shakes. Is the title in a narrow band a good idea?
34. AQUAMAN. That dimensional warp is pretty unspectacular. Rest looks pretty good though!
35. SENSATION. Diana can give better speeches than that. And also kick/haul ass!
36. SHE-HULK. Ha!

37. Impulse - for the facial expressions.
38. Wolff & Byrd - like the idea of a tarot card with the lawyers (or other professions). Finder's interesting, but the book script is meaningless.
39. Unwritten - lovely cover + reading Moby Dick inside the whale. Booster's tap on the comic book guy's shoulder is pretty good, though.
40. Bride's Secrets - by default. SHouldn't her category be Failed Love, given the tears? Don't like the yellow on Secret Romance and they're not giving away colour TVs. (When I looked up "The Home Superb", thinking it might be one of those classic reference books every 1950s household had, the "707 Indoor Shooting Range" at Myrtle Beach came up. Looks like that romance is doomed!

37. Blue Devil. The Kid's dreams have become classic comic cover reality.
38. Finder. Being the only card works against the other one. I like finder's background colour and want to know more about the book than a tarot reading.
39. Animal Man. Breaking that fourth wall. Or is he?
40. Secret Romance. I have an older relative whose romance ended in angsty tragedy when they were crushed picking an issue with a TV inside it off a shelf. I get a disconnect with the text too. That leaves the yuck Secret romance as the winner. In 10 seconds she'll only remember what's his name had a rubbish tache and that she dislikes yellow backgrounds.

37. Blue Devil. It has Kid Devil, Robin and some weird creature on it. PLUS I loved Blue Devil as a kid. By the time Bart came around I wasn't into teen stories.
38. Finder. I'm an open book that way.
39. Animal Man. Doing things only an animal can! I really want him to ask for Grey Poupon next
40. It's a tough call - I'm going to for Bride's Secrets because her category is love. I have no idea what this means.

41. Fish Police - for the weirdness, and I'd forgotten all about Fish Police.
42. Age of Bronze - the moment, frozen in time; the simplicity works for me. Yet I wonder if the green Egyptian is a Lantern or another mad Coluan.
43. The Spirit - the multiple moons distract but Spiderwoman looks like standard superhero fare.
44. Timmy - staying on the right side of the cover choices, but curious about the Casper rip-off and wonder how many kids would rather go to New York than Disneyland. Or maybe the parents take the prize and leave the kid home with a pile of comics and a chain-smoking babysitter.

41. Fish Police. Clearly these are fish police and we need more of this.
42. Age of Bronze. Creepy, menacing. Horrible first date
43. Spider Woman. To know her is to fear her. I mean - this is childhood gold!
44. Timmy - I want to know more about Timmy's relationship with rodents - which seems to be a thing

41. Fish Police. These are the guys that make Aquaman redundant. I'm not a fan of the Swordsman. Don't bring a pointy weapon to the fight unless you're going to go all stabby.
42. Age of Bronze. I'm going to buy Flash first given the choice but AoB doesn't have to fit in comedy assistants on the cover.
43. Spirit. All sorts of perceptual distortion could be going on. The Spirit gets hit on the head a lot, and this cover could be the result of that. Voyeur Man lurks in the background of another cover over on Spidey.
44. Shazam. Alan Moore forced me to pick this.

45. Elfquest - the transformation in progress is interesting and prettier than half girl/half insect.
46. Atari Force - more menacing image; the brown-clad Mr. Sulu looks dull and static against the yellow background of faces.
47. The Outsiders - the colour combination doesn't appeal at all, but I like the swirling faces. It would look better in b&w.
48. Astro City - imparts a sense of vertigo, unusual layout for a city background.

44. Shazam
I liked (one-shot?) Zazzo as a Captain Marvel villain.
Mxyzptlk was an imp from a magical dimension, while Zasso was a child from a super-technological dimension. Kind of parallels how Superman is a “science hero” while Captain Marvel is a “magic hero”.
And Zazzo was more of a troublemaker than purely evil, just like (usually) Mr. M.

45. Weird Mystery. By a mile. It might be channelling a bit of Hammer Films' Night of the Bloodbeast. On Elfquest, the second figure from the floor looks very much like one of Cockrum's proposed X-Men.
46. Atari Force. The image works well enough against the cover text. Elsewhere, Mr Beige turns up at the Reservoir Dogs meeting place to face a *lot* of questions from the authorities. It would have been nice to have had an issue written by one actor, but based on another character.
47. Outsiders. Windfall has blown away a lot of the cover clutter. With the title logo being condensed, there's lots of room for the image to swirl and sweep. Elsewhere, Brianwave would really put a lot of the Squadron through the ringer. I preferred Squadron to BatO at the time (Davis drawn issues being an exception).
48. Astro City. The sweater makes for a clever background colour behind the logo. But the weird perspective *with* the characters clear thrill of adventure gets an Astro City win.
