13. MARTIAN MANHUNTER because I had a little difficulty "reading" the arm/hand situation on Oz.

14. X-23 still has the tension. Good for Bats and Selina keeping up the will-they-or-won't-they SINCE 1940 but that's somowhat different. Okay...X-23

15. RIP HUNTER. Brighter, nuttier.

16. MISTER MYSTERY. I want to know where they're going with this! Unless this too is a single-panel story. Okay, I just did a quick run-through and it is. Still....

Occasionally mine will be the same as one of the others. The results include PMs calling me out for trying to pretend to have standards to cease and desist PMs. smile

Well, it's not quite a situation like that. I do own pants after all. Admittedly, they're over my head and I run into things a lot, but that's still progress.

As for FL's question about similar voting: I read all responses but I've never really tracked that. FL, I am tasking you with investigating and reporting back!
Elevens, Twelves, Eights, Tens, Twenty-Nines, Eighteens, Fifteens, Fives, Nines, Seventeens

On an individual matchup level: I have been surprised when a cover I'd thought was unbeatable...isn't. Aside from the covers having something in common I try for comparable quality, so I suppose that's a good thing.

I think most of the "something in common" reasons are obvious. If not, ask and ye shall receive.

17. Captain Midnight - nice curve around the eponymous clock. Or is it the eponymous Captain? Regardless, bold image.

18. West Coast Avengers - white background says void and highlights characters. Doctor Strange looks like he's doing ballet.

19. Fate - like the black characters emerging from the background, but also like Doctor Strange. It's just those googly eyes are a tad distracting.

20. Gang Busters - moody, despite the bright lights. No Left Turn a nice touch - no turn left? It's showtime, punk!

17. Captain Midnight. Normally Cap Jr would get the points, but it's unsettling seeing the Child Soldier of Shazam wiping out targets. It's also like he's playing. He doesn't need to be on the bomb. He could kill everyone down there by himself. This way, it as if he's trying to be one of the troops, supporting their bombing campaign. Midnight has always had a cool costume and the little plane in the logo gets the win.

18. WCA. The "down" in the blurb matches the visual. It's just another Strange cover where he's going through something eldritch. That WCA issue may be the first one of that title I got. They go back in time, and it was a long time before I picked up another issue.

19. Doctor Strange. The shadows becoming a background are nicer on the Fate cover. But the anatomy of Fate looks a bit silly, so the figures and threat on Strange gets the win.

20. Gangbusters for both the cover design, logo angle and the background detail.

17. CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT. I'll go with uplift.

18. WCA. Shows the characters and action and throws in a pun. Strange is usual strange.

19. DR STRANGE. Off-kilter style and I like the extra eyes!

20. GANGBUSTERS. That "golden" city scene is nice!

21. Haunted - too many colours on the clothing, but Huntress is too angular for my tastes.

22. Air - lovely the way her hair floats and contains the blue sky.

23. Mister Miracle - happy and cute gag, with Barda lifting Scott. (And quite a change from the recent series!) Buddy looks like that Chucky doll.

24. Groo - good background mayhem, for once clutter works; we even get a mini-joke in the Marvel logo. Hap Hazard is a pretty good name, though.

21. Haunted. The Gentleman Ghost branches out into new publishers. Well done, Sir! Not convinced by the EC stand in on the cover he's bursting out of, all Black Canary like. Other than an interesting inking technique, I'm not huge on this Huntress. Not to mention killing Helena Wayne to get there.

22. Air. The "H" must be off the cover. It's not much of a victory. Talisman looks like a disco dancing mannequin. I've never thought much of that cover.

23. Mister Miracle. Look at the eyes on that kid in National. Uncle Sam has clearly doped him up and is now taking him to the front to be cannon fodder! I'm not *entirely* convinced that Miracle shouldn't topple over on his cover. But it's by Hughes and has that Scott 'n Barda dynamic. Not that I knew about that, having not bought an issue of this series.

24. Hap Hazard. Groo catapulting himself into a fray is a fun cover. But he's just not that smart. There's a gag on Hazard and some distracting anatomy.

17. Captain Marvel Junior -- Whatever the awkward subtext, in the end what matters to me that it's beautifully drawn by Mac Raboy. *Mac Freakin' Raboy.*

18. Doctor Strange -- I can see where the WCA one would have greater appeal, but I find that one even more cliché than the good Doctor.

19. Doctor Strange -- The slightly better of two duds, IMHO. shrug

20. Gang Busters -- Prettier and more detailed.

21. This Magazine Is Haunted -- More imaginative, more offbeat.

22. Air -- I've been parodying that Alpha Flight cover for years. Whenever I'm feeling silly enough, I'll stretch my arms, tilt my torso and glaze over my eyes and intone, "TALISMAN."

23. National Comics -- Not one of the better Golden Age Quality Comics covers I've seen, but Barda's smirk is the deal-breaker for me.

24. Hap Hazard -- Gets right to the point. (Pun intended.) Also funnier and more attractively drawn.

21. HUNTRESS. It's boring, but okay. The other one looks like an unsuccessful parody. Even the logo.

22. AIR has my attention. The clouds look like the view through an airplane window (and I believe the character is a flight attendant?) but if the clouds are the view the inside in outer space? OKAY WHAT'S GOING ON HERE

23. MISTER MIRACLE. I don;t care for the background color but Scott and Barda are adorable. Over in National, "The Black Fog Mystery" sounds like some Mayavale shit. Just look at Buddy.

24. HAP HAZARD. I think you get her point.

25. DOLL MAN -- This one cleverly transcends cliché. Dreadstar doesn't.

26. DRAGONLANCE -- It's prettier and...I don't know, warmer -- in the sense that the characters look more believable as flesh and blood.

27. BEYOND -- Looks to me like the artist put more effort into it than the Daredevil artist.

28. GREEN LANTERN -- Not crazy about either one, but at least this one has an intriguing concept (Star Sapphire with a Green Lantern ring,) which makes me somewhat curious about the contents.

25. Doll Man . The mob gets in on domino masks. Dreadstar looks a bit bland. Maybe it's because I don't know the cast.

26. AD&D. Duursema channels that detail he showed on Arion into this cover.

27. Daredevil. There's peril and boomerangs. The other grave robber should surely have guessed. He might escape during the monologue though.

28. Green Lantern. It's a tale of two scuffles, but on Lantern it looks as though Hal might have lost.

25. DOLL MAN. A little weirdness. Ha, ha, ha! Dreadstar: SEEN IT, SEEN IT, SEEN IT.

26. AD&D. I like the bears but this has more going on.

27. DAREDEVIL. Beyond art rough.

28. STAR SAPPHIRE. AKA Green Lantern.
