They gained superpowers.(I forget how) And inspired by Batman became heroes. The brother went crazy and died. (Hence the probably not well received by the police) She was then abused by the Psycho Pirate Big Dog! Big Dog! Bow Wow Wow!

FWIW, I have no idea who Tam Fox is. I'm *not* thinking of a DC character, but go ahead and ask questions, and I'll answer them when I come up with someone.
