Not illusions although you're on the right lines.

Nope. Illusions was nearly there though.

No, it's something more material than telepathy and illusion casting while also having a long Legion tradition.

Val was beginning to think his colleagues didn't like him much, but he couldn't put his finger on why he thought this. Not Killing Karate Clones, Durlan shapeshifting or creating elaborate hoax settings. Although hoax settings and shapeshifting have some similarities as did illusions.

Nope, it's something material rather than illusions or telepathy and closer to elaborate hoax settings.

Not a whole fake set. Because...
The Legion must have a weird room in their HQ, filled to the brim with rubber disguises of each other, so that they can all pose as whoever they like. The room has a teleporter so they can beam these disguise across the galaxy for use in plots at any moment.
In the stories Legionnaires posed as each other to fool villains.
Over to you Blacula!

The Artist Formerly Known As Thothkins has it!
We saw her disguise herself as a plant and a piece of machinery before we saw her pretend to be a student.

oh, I remembered her as a plant but forgot the order. I assumed she was tbe student first because there were so many scenes with students.

I double-checked to see if any of the students who appeared earlier in the story resembled her later disguise, but I couldn't find any who were a perfect match.
