45. Wartime Romances. I can't get over Love and Romance looking like Keith Giffen is drawing a Green Team spoof. The back story was a let down. Sure, she may not be going on dollar dates, but only because inflation pushed her up to a 1.25. Wartime has some surface angst only, and it's of the particularly stupid variety. But enough for the win. As an aside, I was reading that the romance comics that Ace put out had generally stronger female leads in their stories, while other publishers some how made out that it was always the girl's fault.
46. Archie. It's funny and honest. It also gets lots of points for showing a young Walter Kovacs on the bottom right. Inside, he's rejected by the girls and some ketchup smears the balloon in symbolic fashion. The town might have called her something, but I'm sure it wasn't "boy crazy" It's a well drawn cover with lots of interesting passengers.
"The question every girl wants answered. 'Can true love die?'" Why yes. Yes it can. He could turn out to be a complete [CENSORED] while you change into a [CENSORED]. Glad I could clear that up.
47. Ponytail. there's just a bit too much on the Debbi cover. A decent enough gag, but Ponytail does it in one.
48. Phantom Lady. She's in a morgue and there's a strong hint about fighting an army of the walking dead. So, it's not what you think...well... meanwhile the Bonde Phantom is going to save Harvey Weinstein's predecessor by talking the assailant to death in the corridor!

45. WARTIME ROMANCES. Good grief, what a pair these chicks are! If we take it at face value and Dick's date didn't intentionally get him in trouble -- still, "well I guess that's it" is a weird way to end things. But YE GODS, L&R chick is AWFUL. It tends to be the guy who wins by being persistent but this reversal isn't cute or funny in any way. That shit has to go, period. And even if the text wasn't a steaming pile of crap, that's MATT BAKER over on Wartime Romances. Just look at the little details, like the posture of the characters.
46. ARCHIE. It's bright and sunny, they're at a carnival, the girls are enjoying the boys' presence and vice versa, and the kid is chompin' down on a tasty hot dog. Everybody's happy.
47. DATE WITH DEBBI. They're both cute. I'm giving it to Debbi for the pink/red/purple.
48. PHANTOM LADY. Oh, I'd read both. BP story may be more intriguing, but art is squished in a bit. In contrast, look at how PL fills up the cover with both the shape of her body and with the groovy-looking "black ray".

45. Wartime Romances - the relaxed yet sexy postures, even the way the clothing is drawn with all those realistic folds - enough of a question whether he'll really get thrown in the brig to be interesting. Love & Romance - the title design screams swingin' sixties but the text screams get away from that conniving creature.
46. Boy Crazy - just because the crowded subway scene with only one woman looking surprised is interesting. Archie is reliably upbeat, but predictable.
47. Debbi - good variety of characters and costumes. I like Ponytail's ponytail look.
48. Phantom Lady - a striking pose, caught mid-action, and good work on the cloth. The strange grey beam adds contrast.

49. Madame Xanadu. The arc of cards prevents the cover form being too busy. And it has some mystery to it. 50. Ruse. The back flip doesn't work for me. They might not be doing much on ruse, but there's a map and an airship teasing adventure our way. 51. Sea Devils. … and an easy win for the giant underwater sub attacking spider. 52. Duplex. I'd look at both of these. But the depth of view is unusually far on Duplex and I like the lines that this approach gives. 53. Black Science. Again, both are worth a look. But jetpacks in a city of the future wins. 54. Legion. I could remark that it should be the Outsiders because at least they are really in the story. But it's the covers here, and I prefer the look of Legion more. Having Dawny and Blok on there also makes it stand out visually, and some points for all the threeboot Legionnaires drawn in diligently. 55. Mopsy. The simple lines and shading work for me. Both gags are good though. 56. Shadow. There's action happening, while in The Activity there are some people walking towards the action. I think the diagonal split is a bit more visually unusual thatn the horizontal one on The Activity although using the gun, if that's part of the normal logo, is a good touch.

49. GAMBIT. I don't care for the MX style.
50. CODENAME KNOCKOUT. Ruse is people sticker, blimp sticker, title sticker on a background.
51. SEA DEVILS. ASM gets beat at the web game easily, whaaat!
52. COPRA
53. BLACK SCIENCE. The main image is fine. This wins for the title and indicia design.
54. While I prefer the LSH art style, they are just standing around. lf you didn't know these characters/the Legion, would you be interested? BATO
55. BOB HOPE. Screwball hijinks? Sure.
56. THE SHADOW.

57. Superman - I'll go with the old classic over the giant faces in the smoke.
58. Detective - another vote for old school/gentleman thief caught in the act with the mirror adding details. Giant multi-coloured helmet of Silent Knight takes up too much space.
59. Tough call. Better contrast makes Captain Marvel image stand out more, but points lost for interrupting text - so Legion takes it.
60. Another tough one - Zatanna is beguiling and I like the way her arms disappear in the dark, but Spider Gwen wins because starfields!

57. Superman. A classic pose, with an eye catching bright threat. The damaged bridge is a nice touch showing what the tower can do. Tek world looks a bit rough, art wise. It is speculated that Superman 15 is an adult Legion tale as Superman fends of the threat of Mekt Ranzz.
58. Detective. Nice log and there's a dynamic caught-in-the-act look of desperation in the crook's face.
59. Captain Marvel. There's a combination of doom from both the visuals and the caption boxes. The ZO one is a bit in the way though.
60. Zatanna. Zee magics up her own log. the wintery look in Spider Gwen is very nice though.

57. SUPERMAN. If those cheesy faces weren't on Tekworld, it would probably win. Instead I give it to hokey Superman, who is punching a lightning ray? (Kind of like Hulk vs. the rain, I guess.)
58. BRAVE AND THE BOLD. Well, it is boldy colored and the arrow gives you a (literal) eyeline.
59. CAPTAIN MARVEL. Agree about the ZO box, though.
60. Zatanna is a magic-based superhero but her paying job is stage magician -- I can definitely see this as a poster advertising her shows. Gorgeous image with Zat illuminated by her own "limelight". While I should be judging on cover merit of this one alone, I can't help but think of certain titles that had cover after cover of pinups that didn't say much or anything about the contents. (Yeah, I'm talking about you, USM.) Over on Spider-Gwen there's no overt action, but the framing involves another person. I don't follow the title so I'm not sure if Not-Hellboy is friend or foe, and now I kinda wanna know. That's why SPIDER-GWEN wins.

61. Blackhawk. I just have to know more about how they meet the Greys (and not the Jean variety). Over in Love: "I was starved for love" Unfortunately, she'd just end up starved as they get trapped in that blizzard.
62. X-Factor - I think I'm just liking the gradient effect on the sky. I used to get some of the early back issues of that run in a little second hand book shop on one side of a bridge. Nice match by the way.
63. Nyoka. Yea Animal Man has Bolland. Yes it has dolphin and dolphin. But it's being hurt. Nyoka is about to knife shark hunters, she's not actually after the shark herself. So there.
64. X-Men Forever. I'm not fussed with either really. Dark Storm is it? But the pompous caption on Hidden Years loses it all the points it takes.
65. Scud. More interesting shapes and as one is sitting on the head of another, there's some interaction that Powers collage doesn't have.
66. Wolverine. Future's End doesn't really give me a hint on what's going on. A gloved Frankenstein is overreaching himself?
67. Unfollow. They are going into the jaws of something, rather than going into a group shot of something. Nice doppler effect though.
68. Thor. The God of Thunder goes all first person stabby decades ahead of its time.

61. Love - the Blackhawk cover looks a bit washed out
62. Humphrey - silly gag, but the big cross-out circle on X-Factor puts me off
63. Nyoka - a happy, determined face as she prepares to knife that shark. She could be getting ready to prune a rosebush, it's that easy for her. Killing dolphins, just too sad.
64. X-Men Forever- by default, because the sunny yellow background overpowers the death/dying scene
65. Scud - just prefer the physical arrangement and more subtle colours against the yellow robot
66. Wolverine - dramatic perspective and layout; the screaming face and Frankenstein figure on Future's End looks sort of cheesy
67. Sex Criminals - ghostly look, minimalist, simple. I don't like the giant teeth in the grass, but the colours and grouping on Unfollow are pleasing.
68. Thor, although not a great fan of either cover. Dazzler looks cluttered.

61. POPULAR TEENAGERS. When I first saw Blackhawk I thought it was snowing. Too much of a pattern for a starfield, artifical. Now look at the legs of the woman and then look at the direction her torso is facing. Is that even possible? What's up with Blackhawk? He seems to have just made a grab at the woman who's not doing anything other than looking alarmed. STAY AWAY, ALIEN, YOU DON'T WANT ANY PART OF THIS MESSED-UP ISH. PT isn't a forgotten classic, but the snow over the purple/blue is very appealing.
62. HUMPHREY.
63. NYOKA. I agree with Thothy.
64. X-MEN HIDDEN YEARS. I agree about the caption. But Forever doesn't make sense to me. "Hurricane Ororo" implies she's out of control, but she doesn't look it.
65. SCUD Colors set off a bit more.
66. WOLVERINE MAX because the other one is just ugh
67. UNFOLLOW. Really good color choices. Unusual.
68. MARVEL SPECTACULAR. FOR PERSPECTIVE!

69. Crimson. I think the Letter 44 logo gets right in the way. I'm not a huge fan of the facial expressions either. Crimson gets points for monumental detail (tee hee) even if the cover character is let down thinking he was there to date a member of the 4th July.
70. Exciting. Wonder comics has the better art. All those curves...on the microscope... and the jars... but it's too busy! Evil guy doesn't need a 'scope to see his captive. And it's going to get in the way of the vivisection too! Nope. A poison/acid/lasergun/damsel in peril/miscroscope/vivisection cover is too cluttered. Over in Exciting we're introduced to his latest sidekick. He's replacing the child killed in combat in issue 14 and will in turn be succeeded by a new kid in issue 16, after he dies here. I want to read the Liberator too.
71. House of Secrets. Again, the other cover has the superior art for me. But I'm not bothered about Mysa forcing someone to confront his inner scarecrow. Instead, I'm interested in finding out why the camera reveals Cham's presence in Secrets, and why he seems to have forgotten. There's more of an unusual story to be had in Secrets.
72. Misery in Space. Nice curves on the Saturn ship in Strange Worlds. But the whole thing is sunk by having Adam Strange stand in ruin the cover by telling us what we can see for ourselves. misery also has a great looking space ship. It shows a single weapon is more effective than the gun frenzy on the other cover. And it has space sleds! An easy win and some nice colouring too.

69. LETTER 44. Really because I like the quasi-NASA logo.
70. WONDER COMICS. I don't really need any more bound-damsel-in-distress covers, but the art style cannot be denied.
71. HOUSE OF SECRETS. Yeah, I don't think things are going to end up well for blondie over @ the forbidden-dark-mansion-of-doomy-doom.com. With HOS, who knows? Could be comedy.
72. I agree with Thoth except that that spaceship gives STRANGE WORLDS the win!

73. Naughty Bits - simple & cartoony, but I feel an affinity with that girl, although I wonder what makes the Eiffel Tower topple. 74. Early tagger or flaming banjo? I'll go with Dollman and the banjo since the artist in villainy doesn't look too creative. 75. Lumberjanes, for the feline overdose but the colours on Hellcat appeal, more than the gag. 76. Sabrina. It's always satisfying to see Veronica Lodge splattered with paint. The green beastie overpowers the page and will probably turn out to be cuddly. 77. X-Files. greater contrast of colours with the starfield X makes the image stand out more than Daredevil. 78. What The...? Cluttered, but provides more interest. 79. Don't really like either, although the capework is good on Flaming Carrot. But I'll choose Herbie for using the word "schlemiehl". 80. Vault of Horror - two illuminated hands reaching out of the soil look scary; one dead/dying one just looks flat. Where's the light on Vault of Horror coming from? The hands? A lantern?

73. Marvel Superheroes. I'd probably enjoy Naughty Bits more, but the Marvel cover shows plenty of hair raising adventures for Medusa. Excellent Gene Colan art too.
74. Dollman. Tough one and not in a good way. Doll Man tells the reader that this villain isn't as good as the last ones. Way to lose readers Dane! Over in Boy Commandos, Crazy Quilt won't let anyone stop him painting Mrs Miggins orphanage for free, No One! The boys look a little too small, making the perspective a bit wonky. So Dollman wins for the flame effect.
75. Hellcat. All the points Lumberjanes gets for cute cats is lost as it's a terrible idea to have so many together. Hellcat wins for a single cushion and the interesting look at the side effects of having powers on an every day life. More stories should have that.
76. Sabrina. Ugh! None of the jokes on Josie work in the slightest. So, I'm backing the cover that shows how the comments from ignorant teens lead up to witch trials. Bah!
77. Daredevil. Blackhawk won by having a Grey on the cover, and so I thought X-Files would be a winner. But the role reversal on Daredevil works so well, it's no contest.
78. Katy Keane. A much better artist. A gag that works. A solid logo. And a layer of mystery as there's a sea creature in there too. There's little right about What The?
79. Flaming Carrot. These are both brilliant. Herbie has won before based solely on his logo. Having a weird Olsen tribute thing going on, a gag and some baffling captions should make it an easy victor. But the Carrot gag is just so good. The clear in the stands logo and the blatant added cheesecake are just extra toppings to it's goodness. Ut!
80. Vault of Horror. The gravedigger is clearly on overtime, as that plot is huge! The buried alive story is a lot better than the guy shot by a mobster in a casino one. It's not even a disembodied hand playing roulette in a casino. Extra Valut points for the central line between the hands, through to the gravedigger's face and then to the gravestone.

73. MARVEL SUPER HEROES. That black-and-white logo really stands out.
74. BOY COMMANDOES. Doll Man is a reprint and "cover" is almost certainly the splash.
75. LUMBERJANES. I like the (mostly) happy overstuffed pandemonium.
76. SABRINA. I appreciate that Josie & the gang are a little alarmed (understandable) but don't immediately jump to "kill it!" However: Sabrina has that great yellow, yet not too much of it.
77. DAREDEVIL.
78. KATY KEENE. WT?! is overly.
79. FLAMING CARROT. I think "Call Me Schlemiehl" is funny NOW, but I'm all old and stuff. Who exactly was Herbie targeting?
80. VAULT OF HORROR. Better line. Not exactly sure what shovel guy is doing though.
