21. Vigilante: Another where I'm not much of fan of either one, but I like the detail on this one a bit more. 22. Flash Comics: Danger is another one that feels more like a splash page, and it relies too much on captions to explain what's going on. Always great to see the GA Hawkman spreading his wings. 23. Wow: While it's more generic than the True Facts, it also makes me want to read it more. 24. Midnight Tales: I love both of these, but I'm more intrigued by the guy who knows about his "closet space" than the guy who is surprised to find "the world at his doorstep". "Captain Baboon's Space-War" sounds really intriguing, though.

21. E-MAN. Like Ester, I'm not into either one, but Killer Klown is too Korny for me. 22. DANGER. Again, Flash doesn't direct the eye. Danger has a strong line, and could probably work with no dialogue at all. 23. WOW! True is static. 24. MIDNIGHT TALES. FBTU is slightly more eye-catching at first, but MT pulls ahead with the gag. Extra for Ester:

21. E-Man: Not fussed with either. E-Man has a nourish character, although any kind of background would have added more. 22. Hawkman: Another couple I'm not bothered with. Hawkman's wings are overly large, but at least he has the element of surprise. On the over cover there just wasn't room for one of the crooks to say "say, do you here ridiculously loud, and inappropriately timed whispering." 23. Wow Comics: Having used her brightly coloured superpowers to persuade young me to enlist and depart to their slaughter, Mary Marvel can be seen flying in the opposite direction. Well done Mary! Like Danger, space was an issue for True. The full line reads "Truth is stranger and a thousand times more thrilling than fiction... and all the good super hero names have been taken." 24. From Beyond the Unknown: The story is more...um...grounded...by showing us the Earth, rather than some unknown bit of the cosmos.

25. Jingle Jangle . The Lantern cover has plenty of chaos as thoughts go wild. But Jangle subverts the safety of nursery rhymes, giving them a malevolent edge.
26. Marvel Family. Keep your coin collections! They're too square for Mr Triangle!
27. All Flash. Two good ones and and I like she stamping of the picture as an intro to the crooks. But the Flash has three stories, all with interesting villains.
28. Heckle and Jeckle - It has the better visual gag and gives some character to the two leads.

25. Jingle Jangle -- I want to like the GL cover, but it's way too busy. 26, Superboy -- I'm more intrigued by the baffling Mr. Triangle than by the baffling golden coins, but if you've got three characters flying at a triangle, you should at least have each one flying to a different side of the triangle. It just seems weirdly off-balance. 27. Gangbusters -- Again, I want to like All-Flash, but that hand on the back case file just seems off, and what's holding up the center one? 28. Heckle and Jeckle -- Just like the gag better.
Weird round, because 25-27 were all cases of perfectly competent covers pitted against covers that were in some ways more interesting, but didn't quite work for me.

25. Jingle Jangle - Peculiar, gas ration cards and anthro gas pump, Mr. Potato Head (?) pumping gas and mushrooms, of course. GL has the eye jumping all over the place.
26. Superboy - I like the gold coins against black background more than the sunburst behind the triangle guys, who just look mildly annoyed.
27. Gangbusters - nice effect with the anonymous hand stamping the file and it looks like a more serious crime story.
28. Heckle & Jeckle - decent gag. Egbert looks like a pervert.

25. GREEN LANTERN. I will agree that Green Lantern is somewhat confusing to the eye, but it still gets the win and might have even if I did like the Jingle Jangle style.
26. Ah, yes the Battle of the Baffle. While I don't see *why* there is a mystery of the coins (uh...someone made them?) the visual is pretty strong. SUPERBOY.
27. ALL FLASH. Both well-done, with one more fanciful than the other. This time, I'm going for fanciful.
28. EGBERT. Despite the fact that I freakin' LOVE the improvised waffle iron and Heckle giving the OK sign, Egbert art just sharper.

29. Promethea - The colouring means that you focus on the main character, and then get to enjoy the rest of the cover. 30. Plastic Man - (great match up) Secret Romance has insufficient angst. I like the ghostly reminder of what a powered Plas would do against Ironjaw. 31. Action Girl - Yay! I'd buy an all-fashion issue of action girl over lots of comics. As for other triptych characters, I'll have Mr Triangle please (and Lu of course) 32. Demon - I'm not interested in two characters playing pattycake for the fate of the universe, in front of a confused person. There's proper action over on the Demon. It's so dangerous, the letterer couldn't finish the speech bubble in the middle!

29. Rat Queens - more of a story there and I find the all-orange wipes out the image too much.
30. Plastic Man - more intriguing, less static than Secret Romance
31. El Diablo - although the fun house mirror thing is used a lot, this cover is more interesting than the stiff paper dolls with one of those "Five Mix-&-Mmatch Outfits for a Complete Wardrobe"
32. The Demon - the blank section of speech bubble is certainly intriguing and I like the miniature tiger. Silver Surfer feels claustrophoic with overcrowded celestial objects.

29. PROMETHEA.
30. SECRET ROMANCE.
31. EL DIABLO I guess. But why is there a foldout mirror on a fairway? (Maybe it's supposed to be a funhouse mirror, but it doesn't look like that to me.)

33. Too Many Ghosts - you just know Captain Kirk is going to get out of that one but Alvin Jones and Ol' Pete... that's another story - and Doctor Graves looks like Doctor Strange's brother.
34. Legion - what's with orange backgrounds lately? Regardless, this one looks like higher energy hi-jinks await. Freddy's lightning is impressive, but he's just standing there.
35. Men of War - that's a battle to death. You know there have to be sharks in that water. Although the flames look like they might engulf Batgirl (or whatever they're calling her), she's got that platform all to herself.
36. PVP - the colours are rather subdued, but they work for me, along with their gaming weapons.

33. Dr Graves. A haunted man beats an escapee Kirk. 34. Legion. The Shazam cover is dynamic enough, but it's cheap to turn Freddie and Mary into da4ker versions. 35. Men of War. Buoy o buoy, that's going to be some fight. 36. PvP. A united front regardless of niche. Thor is far too 90's Image for me.

33. DR GRAVES. I agree with Crames, except that I think that Dr. Graves looks like a Central Casting Pseudo-Intellectual
34. SHAZAM. T-Wolf's STOP sign is deeply charming. But here's the thing: even though Bart is running toward the reader and Freddy is standing still, Black Adam Jr is the one popping off the page.
35. BOMBSHELLS UNITED Different styles, both strong. BU more eye-catching.
36. PVP The color palette and central line (lightsaber) grabs the eye, and the objects in the other hands keep you looking

37. Giant Days - It has some class and style in it's spotlight, while the other is bound for the What's Your Point thread. 38. Outcast - While the big helping hand fits the Seekers title well, it takes a second to register. The swirling danger of Outcast is immediate. 39. Valor - it's a pretty brutal looking energy blast. Is that our hero inside? I better pick up the book to check! The other one has a lame gag and Deadpool on it. 40. Castle Waiting - The bright, central light on Powers is immediately attention grabbing. In context of the series it's potentially a catastrophe. But Waiting gets the win in recognition of the artist drawing all the bricks and with well illuminated staircase. (another great match)

37. GIANT DAYS.
38. OUTCAST
39. VALOR The Deadpool joke is an old one -- and it would have come across better if I didn't miss the eyes for the Jumbo Shrimp of Space. No mistaking what's going on over in Valor.
40. CASTLE WAITING. Powers is no slouch; the beam grabs your eye. CW doesn't sound like much -- it's 3 people walking up stairs. Good thing the staircase is, while non-ornate, rather compelling and leads the eye up to the story title (which suggests the emphasis on the building is not incidental). That's a lot!

I like them all, but...
37. Giant Days - the clunky skull-toe boots with the evening gown provoke interest. The character looks like cat that ate the canary - more interest. Clean Room is a striking visual, uncomfortable accusation scene.
38. Seekers - because I have to choose, I prefer the contrast of light and dark.
39. Valor - looks like an extinction level blast. Fiery reds against white nothing as the body fades to brown. The Deadpool monster doesn't come together well as an image.
40. Powers - another extinction event cover. Very nuclear blast-ish and mesmerizing. Castle Waiting is curious but less eye-grabbing. And that's only Part One. Are they still climbing in Part Two?

41. Navy Combat - Supes has a classic look to it (and proper trunks), as well as subtly showing off how powerful he is in an unusual environment. There's more peril in Navy Combat. Looking closer, it's almost too perilous. But the bullets hitting the water are eye catching and get the win. 42. Thor - Not much to choose between them. Warlord loses points for having a point toothed skull that would hurt when you tried to move in certain way. And that's enough for THor to win. 43. Atom - I'd say that would have lept form the shelves. But I'd stopped reading it by then. Bright and colourful. Magic Bullet reminds me of a movie villain - Tron? Which is fine, but the electricity could do with a little work to be more threatening. 44. Harley Quinn - the leaves over the eyes, and the mysterious hand are interesting in Girls, but the palette is lovely in Quinn, with a nice graveyard touch too.

41. Navy Combat - a lot more going on, with more action promised. The background lights provide a nice contrast. I wonder what a guy in a green fedora is doing in a sub. Maybe that is a lost Eryk Davis Ester tale.
42. Thor - shinier and that skull on the shoulder of Warlord is over the top.
43. Atom - I like both covers' colour scheme, but Atom looks like a more interesting story awaits. The other looks like a bad dream.
44. Girls - the quiet, moody atmosphere appeals although I tend not to choose orange covers when there's a choice in colours.

41. NAVY COMBAT is far more eye-catching. And what exactly is going on over in Superman?
42. AVENGERS. Photorealistic gets this one.
43. ATOM. The other one is undercooked.
44. HARLEY QUINN. Very eye-catching WITHOUT Harley antics? Interesting.
