Yes, I was aware of that. Also of V for Vendetta. Neither had an annual, as far as I know.

This particular annual was not, although most of the regular series and its other annuals were.
(and this clue probably gives the answer away)

recap:

I am thinking of a DC annual, not a Marvel one.

It does not feature a super-hero team.
The annual is not in the mystical genre.
It is not a super hero annual
It is not pre-1980.
Iy is pre-1990.
The annual in question can be considered a scifi story
The annual was not a part of any imprint
The title character is not female, but the case can be made that this particular story's primary protagonist is the female lead character.
The annual was not part of any cross-over event
It was not Atari Force, Star Trek or V
This annual was not set in the DCU, but the regular series associated with this annual mostly was.

addendum, to make my methodology of answers more consistent.

Early on, the 'mystical genre' question was asked, and I limited my response to the annual only. In later answers, I also noted if the regular series would have a different answer.

For the sake of continuity with other answers, I will note that while the annual was not mystical, the regular series attached to the annual could be so classified, depending on the storyline.

Hint (because this is dragging on): whereas the rest of the annuals attached to this series were tied into the series' regular continuity, this annual was not.

okay, it has been more than a month with no takers.

It was Swamp Thing Annual #1, which was an adaptation of the movie.

Whoever wants to pose a new Annual, go ahead.
