I know so many varieties of weed in the yard by sight, but I don't know their names. The good thing about intermittent sun & rain is that the lawn's soil is just the right consistently for easily popping out weeds by hand. I decided to stop using chemical weedkillers years ago. But I've got to get as many of them now as I can: when they're still small and before summer heat bakes the soil into ceramic.

I would absolutely keep small birds, like finches or parakeets, if I could add on a separate, cat-free room to keep them in.
