The X-Men used to be the only thing I focused on when it came to Marvel.
Now I just couldn't care less.

So I may or may not be buying a lot on eBay that includes the first six volumes of All-New X-Men, mostly because Cobie has spoken so highly of it. The lot doesn't include Battle of the Atom. Should I seek out that one, too?
Cobie? Anyone?

I actually thought Battle of the Atom was great. It won't ever make my "best of" lists (which I say in jest as I hate those kind of lists) but it was a ton of crossover fun and reveled in the X-Men's crazy continuity. In a lot of ways it was like a Dan Slott Spider-Man crossover in terms of high octane energy. If you can get it on the cheap, you'll probably like it.

PS - all Marvel news about the X-Men going forward is outright depressing. Sheesh. Reading the solicitations gives me the same feeling as eating taco bell at 2:30 AM after 15 gin and tonics (with well gin, at that).

Maybe it's the naive, always hungry college kid in me talking, but 2 AM Taco Bell sounds pretty good. In all seriousness, this petty pissing contest over movie rights and how its impacting the actual comic universes is symptomatic of how problematic the increased prominence of superheroes in Hollywood truly is. It's a twist of sad irony that the things that we dreamed of seeing the most (superheroes on the big screen) is killing one of our favorite hobbies.

Keep up with what I've been watching lately! "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you."

PS - all Marvel news about the X-Men going forward is outright depressing. Sheesh. I was under the impression that the young, time-lost X-Men plotline was going to end with Secret wars or the upcoming X-Men 600, but I see there's a new series launching with them. I dunno, it seems better as a finite concept with a definite beginning, middle and end. Or maybe they've fixed it, so it's no longer a time paradox?!?!

It's great! Did you hear it's becoming an ongoing in 2016?

I picked up some trades of All New X-Men ... I wasn't interested when it originally started.
Anyway, I saw recently some parts of Battle for the Atom online and I am a sucker for new teams and future teams.
So I got a few trades at the CBS black Friday sale and ...
DEVOURED THEM. I love this Marvel Girl she is really written well and I like how the relationships of the first five are all jumbled up from the time travel.
The book is better with Immonen of course, and the Battle of the Atom plot line seem quick and there are some inconstancies ... also the return to the Battle of the Atom a few months later has some unbelievable new twists.
However, I had a great time, it was fun, characters were written well if the plots seemed rushed and there's tons of action.
I think the twist of the kids from the past coming to the future and finding it too dark to leave is interesting, and a bit funny, in contrast to the usual present day team that goes to the future and finds it dark and terrible. The tone seems very much like more classic X-Men stories.

Oh God you guys I just remembered, did you hear that someone on 4chan apparently found out what Marvel's planning for the X-Men. It might be a joke though, and I hope it is because what I read was very depressing. Apparently they plan on turning Quentin Quire into this mass murderer type who's leading a group of pseudo-Marauders made up of a lot of the younger X characters from between Grant Morrison's tenure as X writer to now, and they murder a lot of Inhuman kids because of the Terrigen Mists sterilizing mutants. Pixie is going to be one of said Marauders but we don't know if Quentin is just mind controlling them.
God I HATE Quentin Quire. Remember when he was created as the stock "rebellious teen spouting crap about extremism and change but doesn't know what he's talking about" and then Marvel just turned him into the asshole teen character who challenges authority but is considered in the right?

The only positive thing I can say is that Laura looks cute in the yellow spandex. And because of that, and because I want to support the idea of a female Wolverine, I bought All-New Wolverine #1 and #2. AND as much as it pains me to admit, I kind of like it. There's a lot more shades of gray here than I think most people were expecting. She's not a kill-happy monster like the man she was cloned from, at least not now. I'm not very familiar with the majority of her past appearances, so I only have this new book as a reference point. And I genuinely think it's decent comics. Also, the last page of #2 promises a dust-up next issue between Laura and... I will be getting the next issue.

All New Wolverine #3:
Slightly more flippant in tone that the first two issues, but still a decent read IMO. Dr. Strange guest stars next issue; I'm not following his new solo book, so I have no idea what to expect.
Deadpool & Cable: Split Second #1:
The first of two limited series which bring back the writers who first made Deadpool interesting, in this case Fabian Nicieza (who scripts and co-plots with Reilly Brown.) Between this and the Age of Apocalypse Secret Wars tie-ins, Fabian has been having something of a low-key renaissance at Marvel after a disastrous few years at DC. I lost interest in Deadpool after he got dumbed down and made less meta so that he'd achieve mainstream popularity, but I'd read Deadpool written by Fabian anytime. Judging by the first issue, this isn't going to be as good as the first 30 or so issues of Fabian's Cable/Deadpool ongoing from the early-to-mid 2000s, but it's fun enough. It's great to know that Deadpool still has a Bea Arthur crush, but no chimichanga cravings? Maybe next issue?
For those who may be interested, the other reunion of Deadpool with one of his old scribes is Joe Kelly, on the upcoming Spider-Man/Deadpool limited series. Now I normally love Joe Kelly, but his take on Deadpool was more serious than Fabian's, and not to my taste, so I'm passing on Spider-Man/Deadpool.

I didn't last past the first issue of the UXM relaunch, because Monet's flirting with Sabertooth made my stomach turn.
Now they've killed a young character with potential. Pitiful.

It's nice to know he survived M-Day, the school bus explosion, whatever that thing was in the Logan Legacy, Bendis, just for... this.

I never thought I'd miss Joe Quesada as Marvel EiC. But Axel Alonso is even worse than JQ. At least Quesada had the courage of his crazy convictions. Alonso is just bereft.

You guys know how Marvel seems to have a Teen X-Men group for every decade or so?
The 1980s had the New Mutants, 90s had Generation X, 2000s had Academy X, and then the early 2010s had Generation Hope. And I was thinking how they don't seem to have a teen X team anymore, and I realized the All New X-Men technically are the current Teen X-Men.
And now I have stomach cramps thinking about it.

So apparently Ardian Syaf felt he could get away with putting Anti-Christian and Antisemitic messaging in the art for X-Men Gold #1. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/0...stian-jewish-messages-weeks-x-men-comic/As someone pointed out, it's funny how Marvel's got a problem with antisemitism in their comics when it's stuff they didn't approve of.

Another elephant in the room: Three of the men most responsible for making Marvel what it is today, Jacob "Jack Kirby" Kurtzberg, Stanley "Stan Lee" Lieber, and Isaac Perlmutter, are all Jewish.
Kirby must be spinning in his grave.
Every time I think there can't be any more reasons for me to dislike Marvel...yuck. Just yuck.

Well I guess I deserve some scorn as well. The minute I learned about this today I called my boss at the store and told him to pull some copies realizing this would probably make the unedited issues hot items.
