I really want a Wildcard Round now. I find myself sifting through characters I have little opinion about to fill out 6-15 of my list.
I have a similar experience; I find that maybe my top 8-10 are big favorites. The rest I like, but I would sacrifice them to get my top picks through. We always have at least one Wild Card in my Idols. Possibly two. I'm sure Firebrand will do well in the Wild Card

I specifically picked three to consistently vote for, as I know my tastes are different from a lot of others here. My hope is at least one will match up and I can push him/her to the finals.

I have not been so strategic. My problem? I keep on seeing heroes on people's lists and think "oh yeah, that character is awesome"

I like to tilt at windmills and vote for some people I know aren't going to win, just to see how long they can stay in the game. Hence, Amazing Man, Sargon the Sorcerer, Northwind, Earth 2 Dick Grayson, etc.
But I've got my fingers crossed for Huntress/Helena Wayne or Dr. Fate/Kent Nelson to cross the finish line.

Keeping someone at the top of your list can get them far, but is definitely not a guarantee of victory. I used that strategy with Kimiyo Hoshi in JLA Idol and she only made the Top 20 or so.

ROUND 4 RESULTS!
Who lives to fight another day?
Another close battle this round, with only 3 points separating the safe characters from the eliminated ones. And it looks like last round's shocking results scared a lot of us, as we see a familiar face back in the top spot...
(Justice Society) Huntress (Helena Wayne of Earth-2) - 976 (Justice Society) Flash (Jay Garrick) - 732 (Justice Society) Red Tornado (Ma Hunkle) - 660 (Justice Society) Robin (Dick Grayson of Earth-2) - 637 (All-Star Squadron) Amazing Man (Will Everett) - 631 (Justice Society) Cyclone - 580 (Justice Society) Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) - 550 (Justice Society) Mister Terrific (Michael Holt) - 477 (Justice Society) Power Girl - 466 (SSoV) Shining Knight (Ystina) - 460 (Justice Society) Batman (Bruce Wayne of Earth-2) - 434 (Justice Society) Johnny Thunder - 431 (Justice Society) Wonder Woman (Diana of Earth-2) - 420 (All-Star Squadron) Sargon the Sorceror - 380 (Infinity Inc.) Northwind - 351 (Justice Society) Superman (Kal-El of Earth-2) - 340 (Justice Society) Jakeem Thunder - 316 (Freedom Fighters) Plastic Man - 311 (Justice Society) Green Lantern (Alan Scott) - 310 (SSoV) Manhattan Guardian - 310 (All-Star Squadron) Tarantula - 310 (Justice Society) Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson) - 301 (Justice Society) Sand/Sandman (Sanderson Hawkins) - 300 (All-Star Squadron) Dr. Occult - 295 (Justice Society) Hourman (Rex Tyler) - 270
And going home today...
(Justice Society) Black Canary (Dinah Drake Sr.) - 267 Remove (SSoV) Bulleteer - 263 Remove (Justice Society) Wildcat (Ted Grant) - 250 Remove (Justice Society) Spectre (Jim Corrigan) - 234 Remove (Young All-Stars) Dan the Dyna-Mite - 233 Remove (Justice Society) Stargirl - 230 Remove (All-Star Squadron) Zatara - 212 Remove (Freedom Fighters) Red Bee (Rick Raleigh) - 173 Remove (Young All-Stars) Iron Munro - 170 Remove (Justice Society) Hawkman (Carter Hall) - 165 Remove (Freedom Fighters) Phantom Lady (Sandra Knight) - 73 Remove (Justice Society) Obsidian - 72 Remove (All-Star Squadron) Manhunter (Paul Kirk) - 50 Remove (Young All-Stars) Tsunami - 12 Remove (Justice Society) Thunderbolt - 10 Remove
Two more founders go - Spectre and Hawkman! That's half the founders gone.
We lose a magic user in Zatara as well, and another All-Star Squadder in Paul Kirk. I thought both were pretty good characters.
The Young All-Stars are wiped out; we lost none last round but the remaining three this round. Did voters decided to let them go in order to keep favorites safe? Bye Dan the Dyna-mite, Iron Munro and Tsunami.
I am surprised at Stargirl's exit. I always thought she was one of the most popular JSAers during her time with the team, and that she'd be up there with Michael Holt.
Two of the three Freedom Fighters left go home - Red Bee and Phantom Lady. I expected Phantom Lady to be one of the last Freedom Fighters in the game, but I have to admit I'm surprised at how well the Red Bee did. I really only know him from when he died.
I always really liked Thunderbolt, and considered ranking him 4th on my list. But that would not have been enough to save him, sadly.
I also thought Black Canary Sr. would be more popular. Hmm.
Bulleteer. Only comic I read with her in it, was an appearance late in the pre-Flashpoint League (when Dick-as-Batman and Donna Troy were there); she was one of the Reservists called in to fight Eclipso. But I have heard many good things about her.
And Obsidian. I admit I voted for him mainly because I liked his journey to coming out as a gay man; but even after he came out, there were many times when I disliked how he was written.

Round 5 Begins! From Top 25, we will lose 13 characters to go down to our Top 12! Wait, what? Isn't that a bit drastic? Well, though we have had a few close results in the past couple of rounds, I thought we could stand to shake things up a bit. Don't worry, though; we will have a chance later on to vote characters back into the list. Pick 10 characters from the list, and rank them 1-10. Points will be given as follows: Rank Points 1 - 340 2 - 240 3 - 160 4 - 100 5 - 60 6 - 30 7 - 18 8 - 10 9 - 5 10 - 1 House Rules1) Each round will last about 48 hours. I will try to end each round at the same time, but this won't always be possible because of work. 2) I'll vote at the start of every round to minimize bias on my part. 3) I don't encourage editing of votes; it's a smart tactic but may be unfair for those who don't get to log on as often. However, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored. 4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, that poster will be notified by PM immediately. If the poster cannot correct his/her votes before the end of the round, he/she will get a makeup point next round - a +15 bonus. This only applies to instances where I made the error, and not where the poster made an error. 5) Points will be given based on your ranking. The higher you rank a character on your list, the more points that character will get (e.g. Rank 1 gets 10 points, Rank 2 gets 9 points...) Point distributions will change per round. If characters tie, the tie will be broken by considering the total number of points characters have gotten in previous rounds. 6) Exception to the above will be the first 1-2 rounds of the game, which trim the list down considerably. Each vote will count as one point, and characters below a certain point threshold get eliminated. 7) Because several characters have the same code name, and because the list includes multiple realities, PLEASE SPECIFY which character you are voting for. In fact, as much as possible PLEASE use the exact name that I have used on the list (this will make it easier for me to tally votes using Microsoft Excel!)I won't make assumptions for votes which don't identify the character clearly. Example, if you vote for: 1) Doctor Fate 2) Cyclone 3) Star-spangled Kid 4) Green Lantern (TV: Brave and the Bold) I'll only count the votes for Cyclone and Green Lantern. I have no way of knowing if you're voting for Dr. Fate Kent Nelson vs. Dr. Fate Kent V. Nelson, or whether you're voting for Star-spangled Kid Sly Pemberton, or Courtney Whitmore (she briefly used that name)! Teams still represented:Justice Society of AmericaAll-Star SquadronFreedom FightersInfinity Inc.SSoV / Seven Soldiers of VictoryI listed characters according to code name. When classifying them under the appropriate team, I started with the JSA - so if a character has ever been a JSA member, they are listed there. Besides Hector Hall as Dr. Fate and Silver Scarab, I only listed a "core" reality character under one team. So Al Rothstein is Atom-Smasher under JSA, and is not listed under Infinity Inc. as Nuklon. The Top 25!(All-Star Squadron) Amazing Man (Will Everett) (All-Star Squadron) Dr. Occult (All-Star Squadron) Sargon the Sorceror (All-Star Squadron) Tarantula (Freedom Fighters) Plastic Man (Infinity Inc.) Northwind (Justice Society) Batman (Bruce Wayne of Earth-2) (Justice Society) Cyclone (Justice Society) Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson) (Justice Society) Flash (Jay Garrick) (Justice Society) Green Lantern (Alan Scott) (Justice Society) Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) (Justice Society) Hourman (Rex Tyler) (Justice Society) Huntress (Helena Wayne of Earth-2) (Justice Society) Jakeem Thunder (Justice Society) Johnny Thunder (Justice Society) Mister Terrific (Michael Holt) (Justice Society) Power Girl (Justice Society) Red Tornado (Ma Hunkle) (Justice Society) Robin (Dick Grayson of Earth-2) (Justice Society) Sand/Sandman (Sanderson Hawkins) (Justice Society) Superman (Kal-El of Earth-2) (Justice Society) Wonder Woman (Diana of Earth-2) (SSoV) Manhattan Guardian (SSoV) Shining Knight (Ystina) I have to say, that's a pretty interesting and fairly diverse Top 25!

I am surprised at the Stargirl and Spectre exit. I thought they exemplified their JSA at different points. Also, Spectre and Dr. Fate were the only JSAer with their own books for the late 80s-late 90s.
Red Bee made it so far because of his death. It exemplified the mystery man approach to the Golden Age. He didn't back down when faced with a superpowerful foe. He unleashed his bees and went out swinging. Would he do any less against Darkseid?

Thoughts on the departed... (Justice Society) Black Canary (Dinah Drake Sr.) - 267 Arriving towards the end of the JSA and appearing more in the JLA. No sooner had she got rid of Larry Lance, than she's saddled with Oliver Queen. She was always a much stronger character than that. (SSoV) Bulleteer - 263 Getting coated in some invulnerable substance takes all the fun and spinal injuries out of being a bullet person! No points. (Justice Society) Wildcat (Ted Grant) - 250 Never did much for me. Seems to have worked best as a mentor, but we didn't really get to see much of that. Not even montages. (Justice Society) Spectre (Jim Corrigan) - 234 Hey, if you guys aren't going to vote for the wrath of a god, then don't look to me for sympathy (Young All-Stars) Dan the Dyna-Mite - 233 Bleh! best in the Golden Age where his brain was scooped out. Seemed a bit lost without his mentor. Poor mentor who died so that Dan could get a place in the team with some pathos. (Justice Society) Stargirl - 230 I was already tired of endless legacy heroes. But much later I read an issue of Stars and STRIPES and it was better than I thought it would be. (All-Star Squadron) Zatara - 212 One of the very first, but stage magicians went the way of all pulp. (Freedom Fighters) Red Bee (Rick Raleigh) - 173 He trains bees to fight crime. From his belt buckle. Against super villains and armed crooks. He has bees. I have nothing but respect for the Red Bee, who now seems to die a lot in echoes of that Squadron issue. (Young All-Stars) Iron Munro - 170 Well, if you're going to have to fill the role of Superman in the post Crisis world, why not go to the guys who inspired 'ol Clark Kent; Hugo Danner and Aarn Munro. It's a shame that this didn't get more of a shot beyond Young All Stars. (Justice Society) Hawkman (Carter Hall) - 165 The mainstay of the JSA, not to mention a guy with a cool backstory. Where Iron Munro mines John Campbell and Phillip Wylie, there's a bit of H. Rider Haggard in the backstory and Alex Raymond in the visuals. I thought Carter would go further. The Golden Age version still has mileage. (Freedom Fighters) Phantom Lady (Sandra Knight) - 73 Beyond some comic history books, the first two appearances I saw were Dave Stevens Who's Who page and George Perez's rendition in Crisis. Gorgeous looks along with an interesting publishing history. Was her tie in with the Knights picked up in Robinson's run? He got everyone else in there. (Justice Society) Obsidian - 72 Shadowy powers meant he was doomed to go off the deep end. It was only a matter of letting enough writers have a shot at him. (All-Star Squadron) Manhunter (Paul Kirk) - 50 I've not read many of his Golden Age appearances, and gave him points more for the legacy he left. (Young All-Stars) Tsunami - 12 Nil points from me. (Justice Society) Thunderbolt - 10 The deus ex machine of the JSA. Say, You could end the war in a heart beat! Why don't you do that? Oh yeah, we'd be out of work... A few of these guys were going before I got round to voting. As Ibby said, it was a case of keeping more favs. I think Red Bee did pretty well.

But she obviously turned out to be much more than that. Starting as a reluctant hero, she stands revealed in the end as "The Spear that Was Never Thrown", a direct descendant of Aurakles and the ultimate downfall of the Sheeda. I loved how Morrison made hers seemingly the most mundane and unconnected story, and then reversed that over the course of her series and Soldiers #1.

Bah! I prefer Spears That Are Thrown, wearing flimsy helmets and silly costumes, who are direct descendants of strangely dim ballistics experts in order to bring about the ultimate downfall of Health & Safety!

I decided to remove Alan as he as been eclipsed beyond common knowledge by Hal Jordan (an awful movie is still a movie, and he is in the Lego stuff).

Re Wildcat, I liked how he was written post COIE up to Final Crisis. Rough around the edges but with a good heart. Always laughed whenever he and Power Girl would bicker. His mentoring was more of the "I will teach you how to fight, and if you get in trouble I will bail you out. Otherwise, you can do it kid!"

(All-Star Squadron) Manhunter (Paul Kirk) - 50 I've not read many of his Golden Age appearances, and gave him points more for the legacy he left. Ditto, actually. I really liked the character as a member of the Power Company, even if that was one of his clones. (Justice Society) Thunderbolt - 10 The deus ex machine of the JSA. Say, You could end the war in a heart beat! Why don't you do that? Oh yeah, we'd be out of work... Ooh, I could be terribly mistaken, but I was voting for Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt, not the lightning-assed pink genie pet of Johnny and Jakeem Thunder.

The JSA Thunderbolt was the genie. Peter Cannon was only DC's to use very briefly, so they kept him out of teams.

Yes, this game's Thunderbolt was indeed the genie. Peter Cannon never joined the JSA.
