Jesse evolved Post-Crisis as a member of the Outsiders and JSA (as Liberty Belle) so I gave her that vote. I voted for Rick over his father because I don't like the origin of Rex's powers.

Black Adam is more of an anti-hero, so I think he fits more in the Legion of Doom Idol I will run next year. (We are doing Spider-Villains in winter because I need something easy)

Dr.Occult is now my fourth place person in this game. He is historically significant as the first major Siegal/Schulster creation. His design is also classic but never outdated.

Jesse is quite a joiner isn't she? I never realized she was with the Outsiders too. Then there were also the JLA and the Titans, and the Conglomerate I believe.

I'm a little shocked that Ted Knight and Sylvester Pemberton didn't get further in this game. Ted, we got to know perhaps better than any other JSAer thru his huge role in the Jack Knight Starman series. And Sylvester had such a rich history that ran thru the classic SSoV story in JLA thru his featured role in the late '70s JSA/Super Squad revival and culminating in his founding Infinity, Inc.

They'll definitely get my consideration in the eventual Wild Card round.

Yeah, I thought Ted would make it through. Syl wasn't the most compelling character for me, but Ted was someone I looked forward to seeing in the JSA/JLA team ups. Plus Ted was great in the All-Star Squadron and, as you noted, the Starman series.

Thanks, I suck at copy-pasting apparently, since I do this in another document, and it always ends up full of errors... smile

I erroneously said at the post starting Round 2 that we'd lose the bottom 39; it should have been bottom 20, as we are going from 60 to 40. My bad.

ROUND 3 RESULTS!

Helena Wayne gives way to let someone else take the top spot - someone who came close to elimination in a previous round! What other shake ups will we see on this list?

The ranking methodology really causes a lot of surprises. Here we see that Quis' absence has shaken things up a lot!

We lose Firebrand (Danette), who came in 2nd in Round 2. Quis' absence cost her a lot (Quis ranked her first in Round 2). At this point in the game, a character could go home just by losing one voter, especially if that character would occupy spots 1-5 on the list.

Of course, numerous smaller votes count as well - Thunderbolt escaped elimination by only 3 points!

We lose two more Drs. Mid-Nite, eliminating that legacy from the list entirely.

And another JSA founder goes home - Wes Dodds!

We also lose Canary Jr. (though sometimes I'm not sure if the character I'm voting for is Sr. or Jr, what with retcons and all!)

And I'm the only one who voted for Jade, interesting. I thought she'd be more popular.

Anohter surprise for me is seeing Hawkgirl (Shiera) go home with 0 votes! Was Kendra just that much more popular? Her JLA counterpart made it to the Top 3 in the JLA Idol game, so I expected her to do better in this one.

Round 4 Begins!

From Top 40, we go down to... Top 25!

Pick 15 characters from the list, and rank them 1-15. Points will be given as follows:

Rank Points
1 - 430
2 - 310
3 - 220
4 - 150
5 - 100
6 - 80
7 - 65
8 - 50
9 - 40
10 - 30
11 - 20
12 - 12
13 - 7
14 - 3
15 - 1

We will eliminate the Bottom 15 vote-getters to get to our Top 25!

House Rules

1) Each round will last about 48 hours. I will try to end each round at the same time, but this won't always be possible because of work.
2) I'll vote at the start of every round to minimize bias on my part.
3) I don't encourage editing of votes; it's a smart tactic but may be unfair for those who don't get to log on as often. However, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored.
4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, that poster will be notified by PM immediately. If the poster cannot correct his/her votes before the end of the round, he/she will get a makeup point next round - a +15 bonus. This only applies to instances where I made the error, and not where the poster made an error.
5) Points will be given based on your ranking. The higher you rank a character on your list, the more points that character will get (e.g. Rank 1 gets 10 points, Rank 2 gets 9 points...) Point distributions will change per round. If characters tie, the tie will be broken by considering the total number of points characters have gotten in previous rounds.
6) Exception to the above will be the first 1-2 rounds of the game, which trim the list down considerably. Each vote will count as one point, and characters below a certain point threshold get eliminated.

7) Because several characters have the same code name, and because the list includes multiple realities, PLEASE SPECIFY which character you are voting for. In fact, as much as possible PLEASE use the exact name that I have used on the list (this will make it easier for me to tally votes using Microsoft Excel!)

I won't make assumptions for votes which don't identify the character clearly. Example, if you vote for:

1) Doctor Fate
2) Cyclone
3) Star-spangled Kid
4) Green Lantern (TV: Brave and the Bold)

I'll only count the votes for Cyclone and Green Lantern. I have no way of knowing if you're voting for Dr. Fate Kent Nelson vs. Dr. Fate Kent V. Nelson, or whether you're voting for Star-spangled Kid Sly Pemberton, or Courtney Whitmore (she briefly used that name)!

Teams still represented:

Justice Society of America
All-Star Squadron
Freedom Fighters
Infinity Inc.
SSoV / Seven Soldiers of Victory
Young All-Stars

I listed characters according to code name. When classifying them under the appropriate team, I started with the JSA - so if a character has ever been a JSA member, they are listed there. Besides Hector Hall as Dr. Fate and Silver Scarab, I only listed a "core" reality character under one team. So Al Rothstein is Atom-Smasher under JSA, and is not listed under Infinity Inc. as Nuklon.

The Top 40:

(All-Star Squadron) Amazing Man (Will Everett)
(All-Star Squadron) Dr. Occult
(All-Star Squadron) Manhunter (Paul Kirk)
(All-Star Squadron) Sargon the Sorceror
(All-Star Squadron) Tarantula
(All-Star Squadron) Zatara
(Freedom Fighters) Phantom Lady (Sandra Knight)
(Freedom Fighters) Plastic Man
(Freedom Fighters) Red Bee (Rick Raleigh)
(Infinity Inc.) Northwind
(Justice Society) Batman (Bruce Wayne of Earth-2)
(Justice Society) Black Canary (Dinah Drake Sr.)
(Justice Society) Cyclone
(Justice Society) Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson)
(Justice Society) Flash (Jay Garrick)
(Justice Society) Green Lantern (Alan Scott)
(Justice Society) Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders)
(Justice Society) Hawkman (Carter Hall)
(Justice Society) Hourman (Rex Tyler)
(Justice Society) Huntress (Helena Wayne of Earth-2)
(Justice Society) Jakeem Thunder
(Justice Society) Johnny Thunder
(Justice Society) Mister Terrific (Michael Holt)
(Justice Society) Obsidian
(Justice Society) Power Girl
(Justice Society) Red Tornado (Ma Hunkle)
(Justice Society) Robin (Dick Grayson of Earth-2)
(Justice Society) Sand/Sandman (Sanderson Hawkins)
(Justice Society) Spectre (Jim Corrigan)
(Justice Society) Stargirl
(Justice Society) Superman (Kal-El of Earth-2)
(Justice Society) Thunderbolt
(Justice Society) Wildcat (Ted Grant)
(Justice Society) Wonder Woman (Diana of Earth-2)
(SSoV) Bulleteer
(SSoV) Manhattan Guardian
(SSoV) Shining Knight (Ystina)
(Young All-Stars) Dan the Dyna-Mite
(Young All-Stars) Iron Munro
(Young All-Stars) Tsunami

I regret not ranking Firebrand higher now. frown I thought she'd be safer than that after the previous round.

Some thoughts on those departed...

(Justice Society) Sandman (Wesley Dodds) - 152
I thought he was going to be safe. I was never a fan of his JLA days. Keeping his sidekick in a cage for decades never worked for me at all. His heart condition was endlessly referred to by Thomas. While it was nice to show the fragility of the heroes, it can't have done his self esteem much good. But he was a visual link to the bygone days of pulps. Looking like a relic at first seemed odd, then archaic, but later came into it's own. Sandman Mystery theatre was for the most part, and is well worth picking up.

(Justice Society) Starman (Jack Knight) - 130
Started off great guns, but drifted away, even for an everyman hero. A retconned Ted offered much more potential.

(All-Star Squadron) Firebrand (Danette Reilly) - 119
Surprised she's gone after her strong early showing. I'd still prefer her as Wildfire.

(SSoV) Crimson Avenger (Lee Travis) - 111
Like Wesley, a hold over from the pulps. Where mortal heroes would fight corruption and thugs, rather than insane Dick Tracy villains and other super goons.

(Justice Society) Air Wave III (Harold Jordan) - 110
He had lots of back ups with the likes of Ollie and Dinah. But it just never came to anything. I think DC were hoping for some positive reaction, but never really pushed the character. I last saw him after his steroid abuse when he became Maser.

(SSoV) Shining Knight (Sir Justin) - 89
A knight on a flying horse just never did much for me, even with Frazetta artwork.

(Justice Society) Damage - 85 - Never liked him. Ever.

(Justice Society) Doctor Mid-Nite (Charles McNider) - 74
Another loss to the underpowered, but effective heroes like the Avenger and Sandman. The more desperately epic and disconnected from the real world the super-slugfests get, the more I miss these guys. In the background of Sandman Mystery theatre, there were some things going on with McNider. Shame that didn't last long enough to see.

(SSoV) Vigilante (Greg Saunders) - 60 - I only really remember him from the JLA stories. That might even have been his Earth-1 equivalent.

(Infinity Inc.) Brainwave, Jr. - 51 - Another one I've never really liked. Just ballast on the ever expanding early Infinity cast, with the same visuals ashis dad as a villain.

(All-Star Squadron) Captain Marvel (Earth-S) - 49 - DC have never came close to touching on his life with Fawcett for me.

(Justice Society) Liberty Belle (Libby Lawrence) - 40- Shmae to see her go. A key part of the All Star Squadron. Not sure about those later powers though.

(Justice Society) Atom-Smasher/Nuklon (Al Rothstein) - 38 - His powers were interesting and he's visually good. I just found wading through some of the Infinity dialogue to be a chore. He didn't do much for me in the JLA, although those were skimmed after being bought much later from a bargain bin.

(Justice Society) Black Canary (Dinah Lance Jr.) - 38 - weird retcon of mother.

(Justice Society) Doctor Mid-Nite (Pieter Cross) - 37 - derivative of original, with additional ER age references thrown in.

(Infinity Inc.) Fury (Lyta Hall) - 26 - I remember her more from Sandman, when she threatened the Lord of dreams. She must have been badly undercut from Crisis.

(All-Star Squadron) Commander Steel - 18 - Conway retcon.

(Infinity Inc.) Jade - 17 - lost all credibility from being linked with Jack Knight. I got the feeling she was being portrayed as antagonistic in later Outsiders/JLA.

(Justice Society) Hawkgirl (Shiera Sanders) - 0 - Hawkman's partner, for me, rather than the every bit as equal later versions.

(Justice Society) Red Tornado (John Smith/Ulthoon) - 0 - The Vision joins the JLA. I don't really think of him as a JSAer.

Like with thoth, I always thought of the android Red Tornado as a JLAer.

Liberty Belle's departure was also a bit of a shock for me.

I did think that Shiera's departure was because she was not as fleshed out a character as Kendra or JLA's Shayera turned out to be.
