Jericho held hostages at D'Olivia in New York City during the "Deathtrap" crossover. He didn't take kindly to a Titan trying to talk to one of his hostages ... so he shot the Titan in the head. The shot luckily only grazed the scalp.

Kid/Red Devil had been depowered at that point but was still a member of the team. When he broke rank to approach a hostage, he was shot at pretty close range in the head. Miraculously, it was a graze and he was perfectly fine.

I guessed that your clue, that the member should not have been, meant someone depowered. And Kid Devil fit the bill.

It was published in the early years. Two issues before the first series ends, he shows back up to explain his illnesses and absence have been from his own lack of self worth. And before you can feel bad for him, he quits over it and vanishes.
