Interesting. I find it hard to discern when comparing myself to other people.

I myself never noticed my accent until I met people with a totally different accent.

I don't speak with an accent. I speak 'murican!

Nobody has an accent until they meet someone who does.

So I was visiting friends in Scotland and we were touring Balmoral (the Queen's summer place). WHile walking my friends said that they didn't hear an accent when I talked. I was like "um OK" Then I read out loud the pamphlet that said "Proceeds go to the Royal Cancer Society" Which I pronounced as "Can-sah" They then laughed and said "Oh there it is!"

Oh that silly accent. Popping out just when you thought it was safe...

My mother lived in Massachusetts till she was about 38. She lived in Florida for the following 28 years and has lived in Texas for about seven years. She still has a Boston accent.

When I was a teenager, I loved James Doohan's accent as Scotty. I tried to imitate it. I always thought people with foreign accents sounded so cool.

I was shown one of Peter Capaldi's Doctor Who episodes the other week, and noticed I'd picked up bits of the accent for a good hour afterwards.

Thankfully, a bit of received pronunciation on BBC Radio 4 got me back to normal.

Sometimes I get annoyed at people with intentionally exaggerated accents.

Me, too. Though if I could have sounded like Scotty or Paul McCartney, I would have thought I was the coolest person around.

I wonder if Paul McCartney thinks a different accent would make him sound cool.

Wouldn't it depend on which accent he adopted?

I remember a lot of commercials when I was growing up for a product called Accent, which was just MSG.

There's a joke here that all Chinese food in the Philippines is basically just MSG and food coloring.

I really like this joke.

I was soothing my physical and spiritual pain yesterday by watching old clips of The Odd Couple series.

You know it! I love What's My Line?.

Once at choir rehearsal, the director referred to side conversations as someone having a conference. I muttered, audibly only to our lead tenor (whom I knew would appreciate it) "There's been no call for a conference," imitating John Daly.

Whose line is it anyway?

What's My Line is better. I recommend watching clips on Youtube. Ronald Reagan as the mystery guest is particularly amusing.
