Colin Hay comes through town here quite often. Apparently he's pretty fond of the place. I should go see his show next time.

Several years ago, I saw Colin Hay and the late Greg Ham fronting Men At Work. It was lots of fun. Ham walked into the audience during his sax solo. I think Hay was very classy for retiring the Men At Work name after Ham's passing.

"Last Night of the World" from Miss Saigon is my ringtone for The Boyfriend. The chorus begins "A song played on a solo saxophone."

Ha! When I was little, I hated when the other kids called me "Sacks-o-phone." No wonder it took me so long to become a jazz fan.

Let the record state: no known familial links exist between my paternal line and Adolphe Sax, the inventor of that famous horn.

In retrospect, that's kind of disappointing.

I love rhymes, but not when they are used to make fun of people.

Yep, it's more word-play than rhyme. Of course, few if any kids are immune from it. Most names are fair game, sooner or later.

A rhyming taunt for my childhood (I probably chanted it when others started in) was for a kid named Eddie.

It went:

Eddie Spaghetti with the meatball eyes
put 'em in the oven and make French Fries

On top of spaghetti... all covered in cheese...I lost my poor meatball...

A song I remember from childhood.

^^That song is actually a parody of a very sad folk song that goes,

"On top of Old Smokey...all covered in snow...I lost my true lover...from courting too slow..."

I prefer the spaghetti version.

Me too! I much prefer the spaghetti words (which were the words I first knew).

There is so much sodium in food nowadays that I avoid adding salt to mine.

Yeah, I know too much salt can be harmful, but a little of it add a certain je nai sais quoi.

I have had to cut back on pasta because of my health issues. I need to learn how to make the "paleo" version. I've had it at friends' parties and it's quite delicious. But it kind of hinges on it being zucchini season.

Snoopy would rather have zucchini fritters than plain old dog food.

It's trendy now to make canapes with fancy thin breads, salted butter, and those super-pungent, elongated "French breakfast" radishes. I wish I could grow some of those.

In summer, one of my favorite snacks is thin-sliced radishes marinated in white vinegar, cracked pepper, and a bit of salt.

Ah, France. An unhealthy diet so they say, but tempered because of the moderate amounts they consume.
