Maybe they were providing cushioning for the screaming groupies who the band expected to rush the stage any second...? ... I think the title of this thread should be changed to, "Let's All Help cleome Ramble On Endlessly About Increasingly Random/Pointless Stuff Because She Lacks The Cojones To Go Face A Sinkful Of Dirty Dishes."

Dishes I am okay with. Laundry is a problem, though.

My preferred dish-washing liquid (for hand-washing) is Joy. It's getting harder to find.
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

I've heard of the Scopes Monkey Trial, but I'm not sure what it's about. Something else else to do with theories of evolution versus religious fundamentalism? The movie "Inherit the Wind" is a fictionalized version of the trial. It's a pretty good movie. Spencer Tracy plays the Clarence Darrow lawyer.

Bram Djikstra totally takes apart the fictionalized version of Scopes in his book-long rant, Idols Of Perversity.I do love a good, book-long rant. Especially when it points out just how much bad art there's always been in the world.

Is art still art if it is bad?

IIRC, Scott McCloud believes that any kind of personal statement qualifies as art.

I think he said later that he may have oversimplified that just a tiny bit. Also, bad art is still art, yes, and the sketchbooks in my garage teeming with it are also excellent silverfish food, probably. [rolleyes] And somebody else on this board still needs to read *The Sculptor* so I'm not sitting around all the time just talking to myself. Where's Outdoor Miner? I bet I could get him to read it.

Thanks for the reminder about "The Sculptor", Cleome. I just finished requesting it from the library.

Now I'm trying to remember if poor Scott is the pro I annoyed back in the day by trying to explain in detail why the villain of the first *Toy Story* flick is really the hero. I am simultaneously proud and ashamed of the fact that I did this.

I *has* read The Sculptor! But I can pretend I haven't, if it gets Outdoor Miner to post
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."

Back in my convention-going days, most of my interactions with creators were positive ones.
Walt Simonson was a bit gruff, but I've heard he's usually that way in person. And he's such a colossal talent that I can forgive him easily.
John Romita Junior, on the other hand, was very aloof, and when I handed him some of his older work to autograph, the expression on his face was not pleasant.
John Romita Senior was a sweetheart, though.

I can't really remember any bad experiences I had meeting creators. If I did, it was probably my fault anyway, because I *can* be really annoying.

You're too humble, cleome. I cannot imagine ever being annoyed by you!

Where is that lovable rogue anyway? I suppose if I did that much adventuring in one year, I'd need an occasional rest, too.
Also, if you guys haven't worked any Mystery Men stills into your fumetti yet, you totally should.

Rogue is one of my favorite characters from the Marvel mutant sub-universe.

Poor Rogue. They could've solved her touch-related angst early on by just giving her some of those Hellfire Club inhibitor manacles made over as bracelets. Plus, I never bought that Reed Richards couldn't have cured Alicia's blindness.

In an excellent series of X-Men stories from the late 2000s written by Mike Carey, Rogue finally overcame the touch-related angst. It turned out to all be in her mind. Carey really matured Rogue and took her to the next level, having her become a mentor/den mother to the younger mutants.

I'm trying to remember if Carol Danvers forgave her faster than Violet forgave Yera. Somebody should make a flow chart.

I love Dave Cockrum's green-and-black costume for Violet. She was just so adorable during the Bronze Age.

I pretty much liked all of them, though that last micro-mini made for some damn awkward posing, as micro-minis so often do.

I am trying to find that last super-awkward cover which proves my point, but of course I'm not turning it up. Maybe there IS a god after all.

LOL
I think there really are lots of Goddesses and Gods, but the myths and legends were distorted millennia ago by the patriarchy.

I remember from kibbitzing a fan-writing critique board that a lot of people were inexplicably annoyed at the idea that polytheistic characters might use an oath like "Ye gods!" I could never figure out why. There are some fan tics that bug me, but that ain't one of 'em.
