In preparation for new episodes of Young Justice, I was watching the previous episodes here. After finishing, I noticed they had all the Legion episodes, as well as a ton of other superhero cartoons.I'm just seeing the first Legion episode again now, and was surprised to see both Booster Gold (as a janitor in the Superman museum) and a member of Chaselon's race (the crystal Green Lantern aliens) as a patron.

That episode has the Xudarian mother and egg as well, as I recall. I really should rewatch these myself sometime!

Season One was incredibly well done. Season Two was still better than the current Green Lantern cartoon.
Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

I really enjoyed season two over season one. Maybe it was because of Chameleon Boy's portrayal. I also enjoyed the way the Legion's cast was expanded to include more Legionnaires: Dream Girl, Shrinking Violet, Cosmic Boy, etc. I just wished the show hadn't gotten cancelled when it did. It would have boosted sales of the comics had it remained on long enough to become popular.

Just noticed that animeflavor (the site I linked to above) also has The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, among other superhero cartoons.
Between Earth's Mightest Heroes and Young Justice, I am consistently boggled by how much better the superhero cartoons of the day are better than the actual comic books that inspired them...
I'd love if DC produced a new Legion cartoon, with the same production values and attention to detail that's been going into Young Justice!

- Oh man... I'm a big fan of the Legion cartoon, as that was the first thing that introduced me to the series.
Personally, I must say I can't honestly choose. The second season has a great variety of characters (and Brainy gets some major character development, wooh!), but the first season makes a lot more sense in places (and Brainy is a far cuter ickle robot), and I like the lighter and softer feel of it all.
Very tough to choose between the two!

High time I watched these again, and not just because I miss writing fanfic. Though that helps.

I need to do this as well. Maybe put them on a playlist and watch them while I work.

I wish I was organized enough to call for a watch-it-together thing here, as I've seen on other spaces for various fandoms. But I'll probably have to settle for posting a couple of comments in this thread.

Yay, thanks for the link Set! Have been planning to do a rewatch.
I agree with what others said. Season One was more tightly plotted, but Season 2 did a good job featuring more Legionnaires.

Season 1 was much less of a toyetic sausage fest.
Alas, it would be neither the first nor last time that sexist, outmoded marketing plans broke something which didn't need fixing. There are a lot of things about S2 I love, but in a sense it's poetic justice that the manly marketers failed with their "improvements," and that the show didn't survive into S3.
Oh, and a big raspberry to whoever green-lighted Superman X: a blatant attempt at toy-centric marketing. Also a really transparent attempt to work Dark Knight-isms into a universe where they weren't needed.

I remember being so disappointed in S2 because they pretty much wrote Saturn Girl out of it, she had a much smaller role than S1, and I seem to recall that the stated reason was that boys didn't respond to her or desire her toys. On the other hand, the fact that we got an animated Bouncing Boy for two seasons is really awesome.
Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!

All the great female characters from S1 got sent to the bleachers, more or less, at the start of S2. Really annoying. If memory serves, none of them even appeared together in a single episode. Nor did any of them get to be the central focus of an episode, as Phantom Girl did in S1. Then we had the return of Zyx and that dull little boy being stalked by the robot cowboys, just in case the guys weren't getting enough attention before. The moment that drove home my frustration happened at the very end of the series. We saw the 31st Century version of Thanagar and every last warrior in the scene was a dude. Is that really how the planet which gave us Shayera Hol would've looked in the future? I think not. rokk, I love BB, too. But in S2 they seemed to forget that he was leader of the team so that Superman X could chew up more scenery. Okay, that's enough grumbling. Later, when I've had a good night's sleep (or three) I'll think of something nice to say. I promise.

Wow, I did not remember or notice the all-male Thanagar warriors. Ridiculous!
And I do remember being confused as to whether BB was leader, b/c they never showed him leading.
The gender inequality issues parallel those of the DC Direct Legion action figures.... only Saturn Girl, and no other girls! What?!?!

Ummm.... all the Female Thanagarians were ummm... off doing real important stuff. And they were all smart enough to know not to challenge the Legion. Yeah, That's the ticket.

I think I was told by a Legion fan on another board that when they had the cartoon toys at Wendy's (??), he was pissed off that there were no female figures. Not even Violet. And who would be more appropriate to be your dashboard miniature than Violet, for pity's sake? A plague on all Marketers.

Cartoons are too dangerous for a girl.
I didn't read the entire run of the comic based on the cartoon, but don't recall a similar lack of female Legionnaires.

The comic was pretty rad. It was probably one of the better Legion runs in comics out there, certainly head and shoulders above what was published in the main series at the time. Gender parity was better in the books, though probably not 100% even.

FC: Dave, I only ever saw the last one in the series, and of course it was 95% Brainiac 5 and Superman. Saw a paperback collection in a bookstore once, but as usual I didn't have much cash.

I really wanted to like the cartoon but it was not my favorite character designs and the new Superman X thing was just annoying.
That being said, I loved the Subs story, as well as the inclusion of Tyroc and the featuring of Bouncing Boy throughout.

The TV cartoon was very nice, but I've been waiting for season 2 to be released before re-watching... wonder how long I'll have to wait?
The comic was great, especially from #14-#20, when I liked it better than whatever they were putting out in non-animated form. The unruly and dumb "Luck Lords" revisit comes to mind. The Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31th Century actually felt like the old Adventure Comics while the Brave & Bold "Luck Lords" story felt like a cluttered mess.

Digital versions are available now on both Amazon and Itunes. I suspect that may be all we get for the near future.

You Tube & WB have conspired to prune away pretty much all of S1. I might have found an alternative spot. So if you're broke like me but still want to re-watch, send me a PM.

Poochie of Simpsons fame (or infamy) would've been a more inspired and likeable add-on. Or maybe Elmyra from Tiny Toons. The Subs could've carried at least a couple more cartoons, no sweat.
