For that matter, Black Canary has been a pretty successful character with sonic powers of a different kind.
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

I always thought a more legitimate criticism was that sound powers don't work in space. Then again, it's not very often that the Legion really fights the villains in space rather than on the surface of a planet.
