John Wesley Shipp is another one. I've had a crush on him since he was on Guiding Light in the early '80s. He's still hot as Barry's dad on The Flash.

I remember JWS from GL as well! Played a character named Kelly...or Kelley. Not sure which. Did the Dreaming Death take him? can't remember....

Shipp was one of the first soap opera heroes to have a bodybuilder-type physique. Most before him were more of an average man-body.

The actors who play Gaston on Broadway must also be quite built.

There are certainly a lot of well-built actors these days. Not that I'm complaining.

I like that we see more guys who can bounce their pecs these days. I've always had a special fondness for that, though it bugs me when people call it a "pec pop", which is silly. They don't pop, they bounce.

In one episode of MST3K, one of the ones where they were making fun of one of the old Hercules movies, the guy (I forget if it was Joel or Mike) and the robots compared one actor's pecs to fresh loaves of bread.

Do you remember how Shipp/Kelly was written out of GL, Rocky? He wasn't a Dreaming Death casualty, was he?

Nope. He got a job in Boston and left Springfield never to be seen again.

I think it did Hillary in. Don't know who else or if Kelly was still around for that story.

Ah, written out characters. Some die. Some get put on a bus offscreen and are just casually mentioned as going away.

I think Hillary was killed in an explosion as part of that storyline. Hillary Bauer was killed, Mike Bauer left town and Ed Bauer was recast in the same month. Shortly thereafter, actress Charita Bauer who played matriarch Bert (Bertha) Bauer (the surname was a coincidence) passed away. The show was never quite the same after the Bauers had less of a role.

Some TV shows use too many random explosions to solve things.

No wonder I never finished my last fanfic. Every time I tried to work in the giant explosion, I just couldn't make it seem fresh and exciting.

No, Beirut was about a year later with Ed, Maureen, Claire, and Fletcher. Hillary was killed by an exploding music box, I think.

In an episode of "The Young Ones", the house's front door explodes when the postman rings the bell. The postman says, "Cor. An exploding door. Stone the crows, the missus'll never believe this 'un." What makes it even funnier is that he says those lines like a bad Shakespearean actor.
