Yes, "Peanuts" was both fun and poignant. It had something for everybody!

Yep. Diverse, and complex as well, just like real people. I've noticed a lot of scholars seem to think Charles Schulz was portraying adults disguised as children, but in my opinion, Schulz was simply making it clear that children are just as smart and insightful as grown-ups, if not more.

And Peppermint Patty.

She was the one I related to the most, the way she often wasn't quite all...there, if you know what I mean.

I always loved how for many years, Peppermint Patty was completely clueless to the fact that Snoopy was a dog, even referring to his doghouse as "Chuck's guest cottage."

LOL

Me, too, Rocky. nod

I also remember Peppermint Patty referring to Snoopy as "the funny-looking kid with the big nose."

And she thought Snoopy was the only decent baseball player on Charlie Brown's team. lol

Peppermint Patty started out as a rough-and-tumble tomboy, but later showed how vulnerable and insecure she was underneath the bravado. I could relate to that when I was growing up.

She was a much more likable character than Lucy, IMO.

LOL

True.

One of the most subtly disturbing story arcs Charles Schulz ever did was when Lucy actually made efforts to be nice until, finally, one of the other kids said words to the effect of, "Forget it, you'll always be crabby." Then Lucy gets a creepy smile on her face and says, "Suddenly I feel a great sense of relief." lol

Lucy's crabbiness certainly doesn't qualify her to be a good psychiatrist. She's damn lucky she charges such a pittance, because otherwise she wouldn't get any patients.

Charlie Brown is such a sucker in that regard. Linus is a much better listener than Lucy is.

One of my favorite strips from the early peanuts shows Linus outside and a few drops of rain starting to fall. Linus gets a great big grin on his face and starts running. Each panel the rain gets heavier until it is a deluge. The last panel has him coming in, sopping wet. He says to Lucy "I don't care what they say. A smile makes a lousy umbrella."

Linus is wise beyond his years.

When I was younger I used to have a blanket like his. I only carried it around the house, though.

My favorite stuffed animal as a young kid was a stuffed dog named "Doggie"

I know someone who could not think of a good name for his golden retriever. So he named him "Doggie".

We're not close.

He could have at least named his dog "Doggo", after R. Crumb's anthropomorphic talking dog from his 80s "Mode O'Day" stories.
