I think you're probably right about the media tie-in goal of the New 52, even if that isn't the only purpose. That it may not quite be working doesn't make it less likely. More in fact. smile

I'd probably prefer them to wait on doing Flash till the current Dark Knight inspired grim and gritty period is over. Either that or they learn not to do everything with the same style despite it being against the character. The last time they did Flash was during the last Batman-inspired dark period and it looked ridiculous to me to have this bright red costume with lightning toned down by shadows, and Central City being a lower-budget tv clone of Gotham.

They should just piss off everyone whose got skin in the 'Hal, John or Kyle' game and have the next cinematic GL be some Asian / Indian woman we've never heard of.

And then they can have a purple Love Lantern show up, and it be a dude, just to rage-upset all the applecarts.

Well I imagine this is in some weird embryonic stage in Hollywood. Probably in the "let's hear 5 different pitches" phase. The Hal as "too old to do this" character would be pretty fun though. As long as Simon Baz gets to be the junior partner.

I'm a little surprised at how DC is trying to turn their movie machine around into something more competitive - with this, the BoP and Titans possibilities - and I hope that they turn into something fun and cool to watch.

John Stewart for the win, please. Everyone who watched the WB cartoons as a child (everyone around my age, which is 24) and did not read the comics know John as Green Lantern.

Ehh I only really have interest in the project if it's Hal Jordan. shrug

And yet, WB has been promoting Hal as the GL in 99.9% of JLA related merchandising, video games and animation since "Rebirth." So really, the "John is THE GL" fans are only from the window of the time during the cartoon vs the people who know Hal as GL before and after. John's lucky WB wants a buddy film. Compare that to Wally West who held the main title in the actual comics for much longer than simply the duration of the cartoon. And he gets scraps compared to John.

People my age are a huge part of that 18-34 target demographic these movies are geared toward. One would hope they would consider our input regarding the last film (and apparently complaints) when crafting the next film. The most common complaint I found in reviews was that the lead character came off as unlikable; and you would not have that problem with John Stewart. He comes off a bit brash at times, but overall has a good moral backbone.

There has been a rumor for years that John Stewart will be the GL for the JLA movie and that Hal would get the solo movies. If that is true, it means most fans would be happy (I wonder how many Guy and Alan fans there are that are only fans of each character respectively).

I don't think that the demographic is nearly that homogenous though. Many people in the 18-34 age bracket, including me, watched JLU as a kid, but either didn't have any strong feelings toward John Stewart or didn't like him at all. There's also the fact that most people of that age are actively consuming DC's current crop of animated movies, which feature Hal Jordan prominently so they're more likely to expect him in the role if that's the first Green Lantern they followed. I wouldn't discount that John Stewart has a cache with Millennials, but it's not as one sided as it seems.
