We already had a Terra III. There you go. Anarchy. Some folks will be talking about planetary globes and others will be talking about Power Girl's....back up character.

Okay, on the Anti-Monitor: did anyone else think the bone-colored parts of his face were teeth and not just gross skin grimacing? Cause I thought they were teeth until someone pointed out to me they weren't and they used to creep the hell outta me when I thought they were just massive-ass teeth.

To be blunt, I've always found the Anti-Monitor so lame that I don't care one way or the other.

I think he can be lame, but I think he (like Darkseid) have lameness due to their use, not inherent to their characters: Both should be total "OH SHIT" moments in any story and the trouble is they get bandied about way too much.

At least Darkseid has actually had several "OH SHIT" moments over the years. Call me jaded, call me what you will, but I can't think of a single "OH SHIT" moment from the Anti-Monitor, not even in CoIE.

The death of Supergirl was pretty OH SHIT for me.
The Anti-Monitor also gets some lameness going on from his repetitive grandiose dialogue!

In fairness, Darkseid has not been immune from repetitive grandiose dialogue, even in his early appearances. Jack Kirby was talented at many things, but dialogue wasn't one of them.

I completely agree.
I think writing dialogue for these big OH SHIT type villains can b quite a challenge . I'm not sure how I would fare myself

I have to admit it comes very easy to me, especially when it's a female villain.

Awwww. Thank you, Ibby.
I will get back to writing Mary Marvel's team-up with X-Factor once I'm done reshuffling my priorities.

AS Fanfir, alluded above, comics as a medium has never been known for realistic dialogue. Silver Age dialogue was especially stilted. It also used a lot more exposition than anyone would ever actually use in speech.
More recently, Roy Thomas, a very gifted storyteller and creator of some of my very favorite characters, was notoriously awkward with dialogue. In particular, he seemed to use the same expressions over and over. When someone was doing good work, they were always "going great guns". People were never killed; they were "wasted".
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

I have to agree with you for the most part on Roy's dialogue, Rocky. By the time he started working for DC in 1980, his dialogue had become self-parodic. Not that I don't find a lot of positive qualities in his DC work.

I can overlook the dialogue if the rest of the comic is great

I usually can, too, Ibby, but I have my limits. And the original Fourth World saga is definitely where I draw the line.

I agree. The samples of the Fourth World I have seen are just too much. Add to that the strangeness of the concepts and I can't wrap my head around it

Have you tried Walter Simonson's "Orion" series, Ibby? That, to me, is the Fourth World done right.

On the topic of Roy Thomas, I actually love his work at DC. Infinity Inc and All Star Squadron, which I have gotten into in the past few months, are easily among my favorite series that DC was putting out in the 80's.
Keep up with what I've been watching lately! "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you."

I have heard many good things about both series. I think Roy Thomas was great at creating characters.
