Jack Kirby was talented at many things, but dialogue wasn't one of them. Silver Age dialogue was especially stilted. It also used a lot more exposition than anyone would ever actually use in speech. More recently, Roy Thomas, a very gifted storyteller and creator of some of my very favorite characters, was notoriously awkward with dialogue. In particular, he seemed to use the same expressions over and over. When someone was doing good work, they were always "going great guns". People were never killed; they were "wasted". The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

By the time he started working for DC in 1980, his dialogue had become self-parodic. Not that I don't find a lot of positive qualities in his DC work.
