A bit of both for me. I had a target in mind. Cutting out obvious things brought me close to that, but then it was the more active things that brought me to the target. I didn't want to have one without the other.

Having said that, work has made me the Human Sloth in recent months.

I was wondering what happened to your ferocious typing fingers of fury smile hope you will have some more free time soon thothy.

I gained weight recently because of tons of overtime too. No exercise, and I got so hungry I ate whatever. Still tried to eat healthy but harder when I can barely keep awake.

I wonder what kind of movie Fingers of Fury would be. I was thinking Subbuteo or a Finger Mouse/ Martial Arts mash up. No doubt certain LWers have other ideas. I offer a pre-emptive Harrumph in their direction. smile

Well the meal replacement shake at lunch plus 20 minutes of cardio 4 x a week has started the loss. I'm down 5 pounds since I started 2 weeks ago
My goal was 10 pounds, my reach goal is 15 pounds for the year (which is where I was before last year's immense awfulness)

I just wanted to share that I lost 20 lbs. using the Venus diet (it's specifically for women), which is about what I wanted to lose. smile I am so happy and I feel so much better! I never realized how often I ate when I was bored (rather than actually hungry).

Even though I'm no longer following the diet, I still record what I eat whenever possible to get an idea of what and how much of it I'm putting in my body. (At first I used a notebook; now I use myfitnesspal.) I mostly try to avoid sugar, but I'm not mean to myself when I slip up because I know I'm human and, honestly, that just makes me want to stuff my face with cookies. So that's been nice to avoid. grin

Also, as an aside: I am so grateful that diet makes the bigger difference than exercise because I do not like exercising. I know I need to and it's good for me and blah blah blah but if I had to change everything at once, I think I would have felt overwhelmed and given up. Now that I've made lifestyle changes to what and how I eat, I am starting to desire the addition of exercise. It's really working out!

All the experts say it is these little, sustainable changes that lead to lasting weight loss and better health smile

One thing I like about the healthy changes is how they make me feel so much more energetic.

Right? I love the added energy! grin I have a lot more body awareness, too. When I'm hungry, when I'm okay. It's great!

My weight has gone up again - or at least I find myself feeling flabby again. I have redoubled my dieting efforts and am exercising regularly on the weekends.

I have a two week vacation coming up and it will take some willpower not to pig out.

Congrats, Cali!

It's inspiring that you've managed that weight loss

I've just gone through a terrible break up (after 6 years) and I'm trying to get my life back together - find a new apartment and all
It would be REALLY easy to eat crap but I'm trying to keep the weight loss thing going

When I started this aim, I weighed in at 188 and now I'm down to 172. Trying to get back to my "normal" weight of 165.
So far it's just been diet (a lot more veggies) and a massive reduction in alcohol
I think to make the next bit of it, I may need to start exercise. Would yoga count?

Good luck with that, Ibby. The vacation is SO hard to maintain a diet... maybe go veggie as much as possible?

Thanks Myg. I will be heading to Scandinavia so I think there will be a lot of meat and fish. Portion control then.

I think yoga is going to be helpful. I hear the key is in breathing properly. I'm sorry to hear about the breakup but I am sure you will do fine Myg.

Yups. Yoga is pretty good for this sort of thing. I don't manage to fit in a lot of time for it, but a couple of short 10min sessions help both exercise-wise and promote a bit of overall well being and control over things like eating habits.

And I read that if you can't do long workouts, short bursts of intense activity will do.

Reading about short bursts of intense activity is enough for me.

Perhaps I can send you a log of all my ten-minute jogs down the stairs to grab a quick bite before rushing up again to chain myself to my desk smile
