Over-committed to things I don't care about I had the opposite problem not long ago. Was trying to commit to an org and do stuff for them. But seriously, I haven't met that many clannish, stuck-up, unapproachable people since I finally escaped High School 30 years ago. After about a year, I just quietly backed out without bothering to say goodbye. And nobody even seemed to notice that I'd gone.

I can relate  well, not the quietly backing out thing. But whew! I once tried joining a group that was so stuck-up all you saw were their chins, the way they walked around with their noses in the air...
