Sushi can be pretty expensive. Dimsum, on the other, comes in a pretty wide range of prices.

We had a good restaurant that sold dimsum--albeit from a Western-style menu--but it closed a while back.

These days, a good restaurant is worth its weight in gold.

Sometimes home cooking is so much better. Of course, it takes a bit of effort...

Effort, or, as Cleome would say, "Elbow grease."

I'm at least as fond of the movie Grease 2 as I am of the original, but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it was shown on cable TV a lot when I was a teenager.

When I was a kid, I loved the opening credits song to Grease 2, "Back to School", sung by the legendary Four Tops. I was surprised to learn it only reached something like #82 on the US pop charts. It must have been a bigger hit outside the US, because I remember hearing it played a lot.

Many of my favorite songs didn't do all that well on the charts either.

"Back to School" was a great number. A lot of the songs had overtly sexual overtones ("Reproduction", "Score Tonight", "Let's Do It for Our Country"). Overall, it was a fun movie and really doesn't deserve the bad rap it gets.

Overtly sexual overtones are best, IMO, if they're wittily presented. Double entendres and puns are best.

There were puns and double entendres there. "Reproduction" was set in a biology class. "Score Tonight" was in a bowling alley. "Let's Do It for Our Country" was in a bomb shelter where one of the characters had convinced his girlfriend they were safe from the nuclear war going on outside.

As I said, Grease 2 is a decent movie. Not a great work of cinema, of course, but not a complete waste of time, either.

It's also noted for being one of Michelle Pfeiffer's first major roles. Maxwell Caulfield, Adrian Zmed, and Lorna Luft (Judy Garland's other daughter) also appear.

Michelle Pfeiffer! She was quite a big name when I was a kid, I recall.

I remember thinking that she was too young to play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard in the Dark Shadows movie a few years ago. After all, I thought, Joan Bennett was much older when she began the role in the original series. It turns out that Pfeiffer was 54 when the film was released and Bennett was 56 when the TV series started. She appeared to be so much older. I always say that people used to get old younger.

I liked her performance in Scarface.
