This is incredible.

George FREAKING Perez is finally doing the Legion after all these years.

This guy is a Legion fan going back forever, he is a master artist of rare caliber...

And he's actually one of the few insane enough to want to take on this project.

Trivia: Curt Swan despised drawing the Legion, Keith Giffen says he wore down from drawing it...just about every artist to have drawn the Legion, with the exceptions of Cockrum and LaRoque has had a hard time handling the large roster...

Perez is going to be doing 3 Legions!

This is just goong to be insane.

Add in the fact that Prime has ties to 2 out of the 3 Legions...and Geoff Johns is going to be writing...

This is just one hell of a nice 50th birthday to the Legion.

This creative team is better than the creative team on Final Crisis...this is an A-list creative team. This creative team is better than the ones on IC or COIE if you ask me...

You have the artist from COIE(and partial artist from IC)

And you have the writer from IC...this is just going to kick butt.

The GDS is about be topped...and I didn't think that was possible.

And to top if off...you have this guy named Jim Shooter that is on the regular Legion title...it just doesn't get any better than this IMO. Well ok, it'd have been nice if the cartoon hadn't gotten cancelled...that was one of my favorite versions of the Legion.

Oh and to those worried about Johns ability to pull this off...

IF it was 2 years ago, I'd agree with you. Johns used to be the master of the setup but his payoffs were weak...well based on what I saw in the Sinestro Corps War, he doesn't have that problem anymore. He figured out how to deliver on the payoff(the biggest flaw of IC).

Perez Interview @ Newsarama

He certainly sounds enthusiastic which is always a good sign at the start of the project. We'll see where this goes.

I've posted a few thoughts on the series, based on the teaser images, if anyone is interested.

All of them, although I must admit that I never even noticed the power battery at first. I had to go back a look for it after reading the Newsarama interview.

Regarding Part 2 of the Johns/Newsarama Interview:
---------
GJ: ... I’d love to write more Legion after this sometime. Maybe a Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes book.

NRAMA: Do you think it will happen?

GJ: Let’s see what everyone thinks of Legion of 3 Worlds. I have my ideas.

NRAMA: But what about the current Legion comic that Jim Shooter’s writing. Does this story affect that?

GJ: Jim Shooter is a legend to the Legion, Francis Manipul is doing a fantastic job alongside him, of course, they’ll be in this. And their attitude is going to be fairly unique, keeping in line with what Jim’s been building in the book.
----------
????? what does that even mean? and the interviewer had no follow up question to that?
other than that naggy bit, it was cool that he mentioned White Witch being in the series. AND overall how excited Johns and Perez seem. i loved the JLA/Avengers crossover that Perez did with Busiek. Strange how Johns consistently glosses over the 5 year gap/TMK take on the Legion. he seems to go from Levitz/Giffen to the Zero Hour Reboot. fans and non-fans definitely include the 5 year gap and the "clones" Legionnaires series when they talk of all the reboots the LSH have had.

I am excited by this new mini-series, but with Prime being the main baddie, I am worried about a big body count (like all the Titans in the 21st century who bit it fighting him). Now we've got 3 teams worth of somewhat redundant characters fighting a guy with heat vision and the ability to clap his hands together and flatten your head. Not looking good for the heroes. frown

But I trust Johns, and can't wait to see Perez' first "real" Legion work (in a Legion book I mean). He's done covers and crossovers (COIE) and the Brave and Bold tie-in, but this is different. Cannot wait for this!!!!!

I wonder if Johns will reveal XS' "ultimate role", you know, the one the Time Trapper teased her about so long ago. I hope it's good...
Thom referred to it in JSA recently, too. [/b]
Yes, I find it interesting that in the ad at the end of this latest issue of Action, that the only Legion featured in the big battle scene is the Lightning Saga Legion and XS is the only "alternate" Legionnaire depicted...

Hoping someone else noticed this as well.

On the first page of the two teasers for Legion of 3 Worlds in the current Action in the panel showing Superman and the Legion flying at the LSV, I think I see Lyle (invisible) flying between Polar Boy and Sun Boy.

Am I just confusing him with a miscolored "other" Legionnaire?

Oh yeah!!

"NRAMA: Who were your favorite Legion characters when you were young?

GP: Well, Dream Girl, because I was a young boy. And Dream Girl just because I thought she was, you know, a foxy character. She reminded me of an actress named Joi Lansing, who played Superman's wife in an episode of The Adventures of Superman. She was actually a policewoman undercover.

NRAMA: So does your Dream Girl look like Joi Lansing?

GP: Well, I'm also trying to make the Dream Girls different from each other. "

He loves drawing Dream Girl! - Can't wait!!

I'm pretty psyched about this! Perez sometimes leaves me a bit cold with as much visual noise he throws into his panels, but i still can't wait.

The fact that WILDFIRE will be one of John's "Main 8" doesn't hurt (though I still hope he and Perez find a way to bring back the Cockrum containment suit. (which shouldn't be too hard since changing suits has been part of his persona) Unless they do it by throwing in the 3boot Drake since Shooter had left him by the wayside)

my thoughts exactly. Jim Shooter is a legend, but Johns is,for all intents and purposes, the current designer of the DCU. his vision of the LSH will win in the end. that's what I think that response was indicating.

after all if DC was really concerned about the 3boot, why not have Johns write it? no offense to Shooter, but why not have your DCU designer write the book instead of someone else.

I suspect the Geoff and Jim have been talking and collaborating for months now...deciding on exactly what effect this will have on Jim's version so that when the mini is over, all the changes Jim wants have been set in place.

At least I hope that's the case. laugh

I thought it was interesting that we were told that all three Legions know about each other and have met each other in the past. It makes me remember the reference to the 'mysterious mission' Garth, Rokk and Imra went on early int eh Reboot line, but we were never told anything about it - could this all tie into that somehow?
Or is it going to be a nifty piece of retconning?

I'm betting it's Bart in the lightning rod - DC wouldn't just throw away a character like that.

Isn't it easy to explain the '... everything's canon now' comment that each Legion isn't a reboot, but simply a Legion from different universes? Wouldn't that make ALL Legion history valid? You could put the break wherever you wanted - Action Legion and 5YG Legion could be in completely different universes.

I'm looking forward to this, although I think that whatever we think of on here, we'll end up surprised.

I just heard about this this morning, and am hoping the three Legions al look at Prime and just say, "Sprock you, you're NOT Superman", or anyhting cooler. All this "Final Crisis" stuff bugs me, I'm not a fan of "universe deletion" and what-not.

As for Shikari, I've been keeping it in the back of my head that she's actually been in the Three-boot Legion's universe the entire time: Go back and read the Titans/Legion crossover where that whole "hand-holding" thing happened. She should actually be in their universe, just waiting to pop up somewhere.

As for Prime, I've said it before. He needs his <stuff> kicked, and the Legion sounds like the perfect way for it to happen. As far as I'm concerned, three Legions doing it is two too many, but I'm excited for this to finally be going down.

That's a good one. I loved Bart, and would love to see him return.

Although in the new posters, Brainy is holding up the lightning rod, and in lightning it spells out "XS".

However, It could still be Bart, Barry, or even Max!

What would be better than a speedster coming back?

All of them coming back.

I got goosebumps reading the Johns interviews! It's hard for me to imagine why so many posters on this thread could be cynical about it. I mean, look at the reasons to be excited:

1) The two other major versions (including the long-neglected reboot version) are back!

2) George-frickin'-Perez is drawing it!

3) Legion of Super Villains!!! When's the last time we got the LSV in comics?!?!

4) Legion in the spotlight! As a Final Crisis tie-in, this thing's gonna sell like crazy! What's bad about that?

5) Geoff Johns contends that the founders are extremely important characters to the DCU and justifies that statement! When was the last time any Legionnaires were spoken of in that way?

And, yes, any one of the big cynics could shoot a zillion holes in any or all of these points (except maybe for Perez--c'mon!), but I think they are all genuine reasons to be excited about this project.

Y'know something? I, for one, miss the reboot Legion! As a whole, it was much better than 3Boot has been, at least up until Shooter came aboard. Unlike 3Boot, the reboot had a lot of new Legionnaires not based on former incarnations like XS, Gates, Kinetix and Shikari (oh, don't pull the Dawnstar card on me there).

Is it likely to please everyone? No. But at the very least we'll have a big Legion-centric epic unlike any we've seen in a long, long time. If, for example, TMK Legion is ignored or explained away, lovers of that era will still have their comics to reread. Will some Legionaires die? Most likely. Will all these versions collapse into one somehow? Possibly, but I don't think so from the context of the interview.

So my mantra/slogan for Lo3W:

<span style="font-size: 99px;">"Just give it a sprockin' chance, dammit!!!!!"</span>

That was them meeting Max Mercury somehow (remember Cos & Imra's reaction to meeting him during Team 20?) [/b]
And, having had the panel in question pointed out to me on Omnicom's blog, I've been reminded of the most empirical reason why that couldn't be the thing.

Koko would make that post-Team 20 for the post-ZH-style Legion, and B5 would make it before the last story in LSH100.

Never mind trying to figure out how T20 could happen post-Infinite Crisis...

Well, if you were writing Lo3W, 'Boot, what would you do to satisfy yourself? And how do you think this would be received by the rest of LSH fandom?

I wouldn't write Lo3W for starters. I hate the whole concept.

And if I somehow got press-ganged into it, 99.999% of Legion fandom would hate at least half of it, and 90% would hate 99% of it (here's a hint - it would start with the threeboot team playing the role of the CSA in CoIE...). Hell, *I'd* probably hate my version of it, since I wouldn't be doing it out of choice.
