Perhaps we should change that term now. Japan and Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong are also quite civilized...

True enough, and all those countries have become much more "Western" over the last several decades.

I read an article that thinks Japan has absorbed aspects of "Western" culture that do not mesh well with its traditional values.

As well, many "Western" countries are seeing massive influxes of immigrants with their own unique cultures.

Some places handle diversity better than others. My adopted home town of Houston is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the United States, but there is little issue. People seem to embrace it. I always say that you could eat out every night for a month here and never eat the same cuisine twice.

I can attest to Rocky's point about Houston. There are so many cuisines in the city I have yet to try! (i.e Jamaican, Ethiopian, etc.)

I also like trying different drinks. I had Ethiopian honey beer the other day.

I love injera, the spongy bread served with Ethiopian food.

I quite enjoy the spices and sauces that come with many Middle Eastern dishes. As for Africa, I have only been able to taste some Morrocan, Egyptian and Ethiopian dishes.

Yes, although for at least part of the year, I can think of two more very good reasons that Ibby should visit Houston. grin

I always say that cute is a state of mind as much as anything else. It encompasses things like watching cartoons and being willing to walk through a supermarket in character as an English tourist.

I have rarely been referred to as sexy or handsome, but I have often been told that I'm cute. The Boyfriend and I both play up the "cute" thing really well.

One good thing about "cute" is that it does not fade over time. "Handsome" can though.

That's true. I will admit I've seen men in their 70s who were still sexy, but that's not quite as common. Cute is eternal. grin
