I like to dip fries in mayo. Sooooo sinful...

I like mayo in the form of tartar sauce.

I don't like tartar sauce. I prefer fish in butter-based sauces.

Salsa, ketchup, mustard, mayo, BBQ, tartar, tzatziki...it's all good.

Let's add chimichurri, sriracha, massaman curry, romesco, pesto, honey mustard...

You guys are making me hungry!

Detroit went back and forth between the Central and Eastern time zones before it was settled by popular vote in 1916 to be on Eastern Time.

And North Korea just jumped back 30 minutes.

Kiribati, an island nation in the Pacific, did a smart thing. Kiribati's islands once straddled the International Date Line, giving a 23 hour time difference between islands. On New Year's Day 1995, it shifted time zones to put the entire country in the same one.

Kiribati also became the first country to enter the new millennium (January 1, 2000).

Except the new millennium began in 2001. That is not up for debate. It is a fact. There is no year zero in our calendar (the concept of zero was not yet invented when the calendar was), so centuries and millennia begin in years ending in 1.

Well, a new millennium began on January 1, 2000, just not one properly called "The 3rd Millennium A.D.".

Well, Rocky had better have words with the government of Kiribati then.

I'd be glad to have a few words with them, starting with how their country's name is spelled.

Ah, there's the whole "Ti is pronounced as S" thing.

There are other countries we might need to have words with:

Equatorial Guinea is not really on the equator.

Ghana is located outside of the territory of the ancient Empire of Ghana.

Greenland is much icier than Iceland.

Macedonia's name caused such a problem with the Greek government that they've had to call themselves things like "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia".

And I believe this is why Macedonia's EU and NATO membership talks are stalled. Greece dislikes that Macedonia shares the name of a Greek province.

So far, I've visited only one Canadian province, Ontario.

I have only been to Vancouver myself.

I went to grad school in Detroit. We used to go south into Windsor, Ontario, sometimes.

I hope to go to grad school in Europe.

It's kind of funny that historically the term "Western Civilization" referred exclusively to the history of Europe. I guess we're uncivilized in the Americas.
