Glad to hear you're feeling better Emily.
It's interesting to see the differing styles even this early on in the tournament.

I have to admit I am having fun, but I think tournaments in general are not my cup of tea. I enjoy the writing but maybe more in a fan fiction setting. I'm thinking of a more collaborative text-based RPG next after this Tournament is done (if there is any interest). It would be something with the standard Medieval Europe setting; maybe based on Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Otherwise, I'm willing to do one of four things: 1) Batvillain Simple Tournament (no strategies, just votes) 2) Fantasy Fiction Simple Tournament (Characters from Lord of the Rings, Conan the Barbarian, etc) 3) Batvillain Idol (could we, IB?) 4) Help IB with the LSV Idol

Collaborative RPG sounds interesting but I'm not sure if I could commit.
I would love to finally run LSV Idol. Your help would be very welcome.
Batvillai. idol sounds interesting. I wiuld not object to you running it using my format Emily.k

I definitely will help you with LSV Idol. We could simply use my list from the LSV Tournament a few years back and add to it if nessecary.
The only difficulty with anything Batvillain related will be figuring out who to exclude as opposed to who to include. He has the largest rogue's gallery in comics. But I'm sure someone would be able to help me narrow it down.

Thanks Emily. I have a preliminary list already, so I can take my list and add yours to it. Thoth helped me fill it up with Pre-Crisis villains, so I am updating it with Postboot, Threeboot and Retroboot ones. With Batvillain Idol, my opinion is you can just include everyone. In the Idol format, the first 2 rounds are massive eliminations anyway. If a villain is too obscure he or she will definitely be cut in those rounds. And you never know which surprising villains will last... I can help advise you on rules, but I am honestly not very interested in running it myself. But feel free to do so, with my blessing PS - although you are the thread owner, we might want to continue Idol discussions on an Idol thread so they won't muddle with the Tournament discussions

I think I will delay making the voting thread until tomorrow night on account of exhaustion. I am thinking to have run less than a week; maybe more people will vote because they won't see the thread and forget to check back. How many days do you think would be enough?
I am also requesting that it be temporarily sticked to the first page so non-players can easily see it.

Hope you feel better soon Emily.
I think 4 days will be enough. This will allow you to close on Sunday evening or Monday morning. You can always extend if we lack voters.
I can sticky it for you while the poll is open

I need some theme ideas for the next match. I kind of want to stick to one of three things:
1) Heroes with movies this summer 3) Things in popular culture (not necessarily comic book related) 2) Themes related to our usernames/team members.
Let me know what you guys are interested in exploring.

No ideas come to mind right away, Emily. But I will definitely be interested in any ideas you choose to implement.

Thanks. By the way, can anyone see if the poll is closed? I think I set it to end today, but I don't remember the exact time.

I'm really busy with work at the moment so haven't had time to vote yet. About to do so now though so hope I'm not too late. Two quick points though: 1. I know I was just as guilty of this last round but Yikes - these strategies are getting long. Some of them are verging on a story in Bits rather than a game in Spaceopoly. I'm sorry that I can't give them the in-depth analysis at the moment that they deserve. I'm going to try to give quicker/punchier battle strategies for as long as I last from now on. 2. Powers. I feel that a character needs to have used a power on more than one occasion for it to be considered part of their arsenal. Not to single IB out here because I'm sure other people might have been guilty of this too, but I feel that giving Gates multiple razor sharp offensive discs along with his other powers a) gives him a power set that was never associated with him beyond that one issue; and b) ends up being a sneaky way of getting around Emily's point/power restrictions at the beginning of the game (not that I'm saying IB was trying to do that). It would be like letting someone who had Superman on their team use his ability to shoot tiny little Supermen out of his hand just because it happened in that one issue back in the Silver Age.

Arrgghh!! This round is really hard. All the matches seem pretty even to me. I wish I knew more about Marvel characters to know how well those ones are being handled.

I appreciate that we're trying to keep the game fair, Blacula, but I have to stress one thing - I think we need to distinguish between completely new powers, and new/novel applications of existing powers. A fine line, but still distinct IMO. Example - Nightwind can control air and wind. If I have her create a vacuum around an opponents' head (accomplished by controlling the air and diverting it away from an opponent), I would argue this is a new application of her existing power. In the same vein, Gates has the power to create disks that teleport away anything in their circumference - so by limiting the circumference, Gates can teleport part of an object instead of the whole object. Even without Gates demonstrating this particular application of his power, I think I could make a case for him using it in this tournament. Creativity and tactics, right? I think that's very different from your example of Silver Age Superman creating tiny little Supermen from his hands.

Generally, as a rule, if it happened on panel, it is canon, unless of course:
1) It is retconned later 2) It happened in another universe and cannot be applied to the version of the character being used 3) The attacker/victim is an imposter or clone 4) Any combination of the above three
Invisible Brainiac, would it be possible for you to close the voting thread at some point on Thursday? We have almost as many votes as last time and I might be busy on Wednesday night.

As requested, the voting thread is closed. There is a tie that needs to be broken though.

We will start the next Round as soon as I break the tie with a coin toss.
Power Boy, do you call heads or tails?

It's a shame that it looks like one of the 5 regular players didn't get to vote in the ES v PB match.

I'm giving Power Boy a week to respond; and if he doesn't respond I will send him a PM. I lost power today, so I am going to be generous due to the bad weather in most of the U.S.

Due to a lack of reply from Power Boy, I am going to flip the coin and end the tie now: I picked tails and the result was tails: https://www.random.org/coins/?num=1&cur=60-usd.0005c-1913lhnThe timestamp on the result was 2015-08-02 01:37:31 UTC. If I am not mistaken, this means that we are all tied up again. I will post the new matches tomorrow afternoon Central Time. I will be using the random generator this time, as we are all tied up and thoth lad already sat out a match. If anyone has been in contact with Power Boy, please let me know. I hope he is safe whether he is.
