IIRC, it's a 1983 strip.

Each volume of The Complete Peanuts reprints 2 years of the strip. Just look for the one that says 1983-1984.

I can't believe there are only two volumes left before Complete Peanuts really is complete.

I heard that one of the last strips ever had Charlie Brown trying to kick the football one more time.

What happened in 1999 when Lucy tried to trick Charlie Brown yet again, was that her younger brother Rerun (who looked like a smaller Linus, but was much more of a smart @$$) told her that their mother wanted her to come inside. Lucy had Rerun hold the ball for Charlie Brown instead. When Rerun came in, Lucy asked if CB had kicked the ball. Rerun replied "You'll never know!" This reduced Lucy to a classic "AAAAAUUUGHH!"

That was the final appearance of the football gag. The last Peanuts Sunday strip appeared on February 13, 2000, the day after Charles Schulz passed away.

All this discussion of Peanuts makes me realize just how much of an impact it had on me growing up.

I don't have any conscious memory of ever not reading Peanuts. It must have been one of the first things I ever read, if not the first.

When I was younger I had a blanket like Linus did. I didn't bring it outside the house though. Nor did I suck my thunb.

I honestly don't know if I'm going to watch it. Even though I love the comic strip, I've never liked any of the cartoon adaptations. My biggest obstacle has always been that because the audience is not made privy to Snoopy's thoughts, then he comes off as much more shallow than he is in the comic strip.

I intend to see it. Like Fanfie, I can't remember a time when Peanuts wasn't part of my life. I'm especially glad that they've chosen to include some of the great characters who were less prominent in the later years of the strip, such as Violet and Patty (not Peppermint Patty). My only real reservation is the portrayal of the Little Red-Haired Girl, who, I think, her controversial appearance in one or two TV specials to the side, should always remain unseen.

I agree, I think the Little Red-Haired Girl worked well as a never-seen object of Charlie Brown's affections.

The animated special It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown features a version of the Little Red-Haired Girl named Heather, a name never mentioned in the comics. Between that and dialogue blaming CB for "goofing up" a play when Lucy pulls the football away, it is probably the least popular special among Peanuts fans.
