I like the Golden Age Hawkgirl, too. Kendra is my favorite, though, because I could relate to her more than any other Hawkgirl before or after her.

I quite liked Kendra. Specifically not being tied to Hawkman so much and being able to strike out on her own.
But my favourite is Shayera. Considering that she wasn't even able to join the JLA for ages (boo), she still came across as every bit the equal of Hawkman.

Yeah, Kendra's reluctance and awkwardness about a legacy she never wanted a part of or fully understood really resonated with me.

It also made a nice change from the JSA spawning nothing but legacy characters every month.

I actually thought all the legacy characters (i.e Infinity Inc kids, Star Girl, Jakeem Thunder) was the best the aspect of the JSA.

I was thinking more of Mr America, Amazing Man, Citizen Steel et al giving the book a cast of hundreds, with none of them really standing out for me.

Oh, JSA went horribly out of control when it was relaunched with Geoff Johns and Alex Ross co-writing. One legacy cipher after another, with little or no subsequent development. The only one I liked was Cyclone.

I never really followed Super Friends, but I do have fond memories of the episodes that I watched.

I liked the Johns/Goyer JSA relaunch until Infinite Crisis. After that, it started to go downhill and the relaunch certainly didnt do the team any favors.

David Goyer was the key to the book's success, IMO. Shame he turned out to be a dick. Then again, I'd prefer an honest dick over a guy who comes on all apple-pie but turns out to be moody, morose, and an all-around creep.
Kinda like...Geoff Johns!

At least Johns gave me my Johnny Thunder fix.

I have long suspected that Johns has been getting a daily cocaine fix for many years now. I may be wrong, but if one analyzes the changes in his writing over the years, there definitely seems to be an artificial stimulant influence overtaking his stories.

I enjoyed most of Johns' JSA run, or at least the first few years. Now I wish we had anybody writing a JSA book!

I loved how Johns had Sandy Hawkins reunite and lead the JSA. It felt like the JSA was actually moving forward and changing.

My favorite member of Infinity Inc was Hector Hall aka Silver Scarab.

My favorite member of Infinity Inc was Hector Hall aka Silver Scarab. I read something from Thomas that he felt Scarab was one that wasn't working out. It was possibly in Absolute Crisis, and Thomas may have been at least considering having him dying there. Bear in mind that Thomas was looking at a lot of options to make the best of a situation he wasn't terribly fond of.

I really liked Hector as Dr. Fate. It made him a double legacy character.

The opening arc of the 1999 JSA series were Hector, as Dr. Fate, fights Mordu was awesome.

Again, not to imply that Johns doesn't deserve any credit, but the opening arc was written by James Robinson and David Goyer with Johns getting "special thanks", and most of what Goyer co-wrote with Johns were arguably the best issues of that JSA run.

Fair enough.
I do wonder though how the book would have gone if Robinson had stayed on as a long term writer.

It probably would have tanked, because, by his own admission, Robinson was so burned out on comics he barely made it through the last year of Starman.
