Oy. Some days, I don't know why I even try.

The Athramites are the creatures from the Postboot Legion who designed all the Legionnaires' costumes, and who put Lori Morning in a dress, much to her chagrin.

No silly, anyone who has ever bought a pair of socks knows who the Athramites are. Who are these Legion chaps?

If you don't know who the Legion of Superheroes are, how did you even end up on this board?

Isn't this the Justice League of Detroit Board with some add ons for other comics?

I lived in Detroit when I was in grad school at Wayne State University.

Everything I've seen (from reporters determined to get doom and gloom oddly enough) about the place is doom and gloom. What are the city's highlights?

I have a friend from college who lived there for most of his life in the suburbs around the city and he said the outlying areas are very nice.

The suburbs have their ugly side, too:

I was there less than two years, but one thing I really enjoyed was the art museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Never been there, but it is on the list.

In news which no longer relates to this part of the thread. I wore a faux-batik top today. Flannel season is officially over now that daytime temps are regularly above 70 F.

I will not, however stand for any more anti-flannel rhetoric. Oh, and no mean things will be said about cupcakes, either. Or I'll have to leave forever.

Our lows here are in the vicinity of 70F these days and will be till at least late September.

Cupcakes are delightful. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't like cupcakes.

Red velvet cupcakes are the best kind.

Red velvet cake always reminds me of the red velvet armadillo groom's cake in Steel Magnolias.

I've also tried black velvet cake recently, it was quite good.

Black Velvet cake is fine, but Black Velvet the faux-bluesy 1990 song was freaking horrible.

Eh. It was overplayed, but far from the worst thing I've ever heard. On a scale of 1-to-10 I'd give it a solid "5."

I got very fond of Black Metallic by The Catherine Wheel a little while after it came out. Because mr_cleome (not yet "mr," of course) used to play it all the time. Except I thought they were singing, "your skin is like a tower," which confused me very much. D'oh!

I hate it when the artist sings in a way that I can't understand the lyrics.

Well, they were English. So I forgave 'em.

As is usually the case when the topics turns to popular music, I have no idea what anyone is saying.

My parents used to mock the popular music of my childhood because "who can even understand what these people are saying?"

Then they'd go off and play Verdi. They needed a libretto because without it, they wouldn't have understood anything being said.



To this day, I cannot abide opera. It wasn't just that my parents talked it up so much, but also that they had to run down everything their kids enjoyed while they did it. Thankfully I didn't have kids. I'd probably be just as obnoxious, except about jazz instead of opera. You know what they say about the apple never falling far from the tree...

Yeah. I figure people like what they like and we all have different tastes. Mine just go toward the eccentric.

I do enjoy opera, but it's not my favorite.
