My first grade teacher was from India. She shared a lot of her culture with the class. It was really very interesting.

I graduated from college 25 years ago last month. Every time I think about that, I get a headache.

Thanks, Ibby. I should note I was 20 when I finished my bachelor's degree, which, in retrospect, was a bit too young.

Finishing your undergraduate education at 20 is pretty impressive, Rocky. nod

I finished high school at 16. I finished at the end of what would have been eleventh grade. I started kindergarten right after I turned five, which made me the youngest in class every year. This meant that by the time I was in college, I was as much as two years younger than many of my classmates. I think I would have had a very different college career (and a higher GPA) if I had been a bit older.

I also regret some of my earlier experiences as a kid. I was 16 when I got sent to the USA for a two-week student conference. Looking back, I would have gotten a lot more out of it if I had been 21, for example.

Hindsight is 20/20, I guess. My mom says that she should not have started me in Kindergarten until the following year.

My father always told me he wanted me to go to Harvard. Given the circumstances, it would not have been realistic, but he had a very tenuous understanding of how academia works.

I did that on my own, but not in a field my dad would have chosen for me. He didn't go to college and, again, had rather unrealistic expectations.

I think that Sinatra's "My Way" is a terrible song. I regret ever hearing it.

Everyone hailed the dude as a genius, and yet he was on key for only about one quarter of the song, if that. shake

A lot of people get killed singing that song while karaoke-ing in the Philippines. No joke. If you sing it during open mic, prepare to get shot at or stabbed.

That's strange. Why do people get so violent when they hear that song?

Thank you, Cleome! Sinatra was totally overrated. He would rewrite songs or bully songwriters into changing the lyrics. His pitch was terrible.

I love watching the Triple Crown horse races, but it bugs me that the signature songs of the Derby ("My Old Kentucky Home") and the Preakness ("Maryland, My Maryland") are bone fide 19th Century songs and are, in fact, their states' official songs and usually sung by a glee club or chorus, while the Belmont has Sinatra "singing" "New York, New York". shudder

Well, it still beats the time they replaced it with Jay Z.

A theory goes:

Quote
“ ‘I did it my way’ — it’s so arrogant,” Mr. Albarracin said. “The lyrics evoke feelings of pride and arrogance in the singer, as if you’re somebody when you’re really nobody. It covers up your failures. That’s why it leads to fights.”

I always disliked that the New York Times didn't have a comics section.
