I love the expression "earworm". Maybe it's because I get them all the time, though I think it's mostly because it's a direct translation of the German word Ohrwurm.

That's exactly why I dislike it. Makes me think of Mr. Mind crawling around where he's not supposed to...

I had no idea that's what this was called until I read Rocky's post. Not only that, but Rocky gives an origin too.
Ohr-Wurm! The true name of Morrison's Mister Mind that ate realities in that DC Event.

Rocky's post gave me the origin. I can just imagine Captain Nazi saying that...

I always had trouble with German. I get Romance languages pretty well, though I'm not really fluent in anything other than English.
As for German, other than choir German, I pretty much only know niceties (please and thank you and the like).

I only know a few words of French myself. I do know quite a bit of Mandarin though.

I can get by in French and Spanish, though I'm far from fluent in either one. I know music and menu Italian and can read it pretty well. Italian, by the way, is my father's native language. I don't speak enough to have a conversation. I know choir German and choir Latin, which basically amounts to being able to pronounce them.

Butter and olive oil are pretty much the only fats I use in cooking.

Olive Oyl was featured in the Thimble Theater comic strip for nine years before Popeye appeared.

The "spinach for strength" aspect of the Popeye mythos was invented for the animated cartoon series. It was not in the original comics.

It came about because of a typo. Someone added an extra zero to spinach's strength quotient or something like that.

The Thimble Theater comic had some wonderful characters who made little or no appearance in the animated cartoons. Castor Oyl, Olive's brother, is a good example. He pretty much carried the strip for its first decade. His only substantial animated appearance was as a member of Popeye's orchestra in "The Spinach Overture". He also featured prominently in the 1980 movie with Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall.

In Greek and Roman mythology, Castor and Pollux were twins known as Dioskouri.

I liked Scooby-Doo fine when I was a kid, but he was never a particular favorite. As an adult, I don't get it at all.
