I'm glad to learn you're curious about the original Transformers cartoon, Stalgie. I think it was to my generation what the original Star Trek series was to the generation before mine.

I've actually never watched an episode or read any of the books.

Hmmm. I'm just a few years older than you, Fanfie, but when I think of the show, then in production, that meant the most to me consistently while I was growing up, I'd pick Super Friends.

I don't think there is one single show that defines a whole generation anymore. People's tastes are just so different.

I feel like Game of Thrones has almost become a cultural phenomenon though. People from varied age, racial, and gender groups all watch the show and love it. It appeals to a pretty broad audience.

That's true. It is definitely extremely influential.

Sometimes those few years can make a big difference, though. I still remember how, overnight, the American-produced animation of the early 80s seemed very basic to me compared to the American-Japanese co-productions of the mid-80s. Of course, a lot of the 70s/early 80s cartoons still have great nostalgic appeal, and some of them were very well-written, but in my opinion, the best of the mid-80s cartoons are downright transcendent.

A lot of the cartoons I used to love don't hold up on re watching. Scooby -Doo for example.

It helps to view everything through nostalgia goggles.

I don't think it's ever established where the movie takes place. It's just set in the South Seas somewhere.
