Speaking of animation, I've been wanting to watch the movie Fire and Ice for a while now. The rotoscope animation style looks really cool and I'm a big Frank Frazetta fan so this seems right up my alley.

Fire and Ice were two of my favorite characters from the JLI era.

I loved Fire, but I wish they hadn't retconned her origin in the mid-2000s to tie her espionage background into real-life South American atrocities. That's just stupid and tasteless.

I only know Fire and Ice from the cartoons. Too bad nobody could have taken fifteen minutes away from Batman and given them a little more screentime. [rolleyes]

Ah, thanks. I've never read that series so that retcon slipped by me.

What Fanfie said. They also made Fire willing to kill, I think.

Why, oh, why do the DC suits think we want grim n' gritty? Can we have more Legion and JSA, please?

Perhaps the DC suits think our normal lives are too happy.

To be honest, Earth 2 has been pretty decent taken on its own, but it's a very poor substitute for the real JSA.

I liked that JSA mini a while back where over a dozen JSAers get together to fight some mystically empowered Nazis.

One of my favorite JSA stories of recent years was "The Fourth Reich", in which some latter-day Nazis used Obsidian as a power source to drain all of Earth's heroes of their powers. Obsidian ended up being the hero of the piece. It was a great use of an underappreciated character and it showed just how powerful he actually was. I miss him

One of my favorite, underrated JSA stories came from an issue of the Flash:

I loved the Fourth Reich! Some weird time travel. But nice to see Obsidian acknowledge, and be okay with, his being gay.
Haven't read that Flash issue but it sounds like fun!

I find it ironic that DC made Alan Scott gay and wiped Obsidian from existence in the Nu52. + 1 gay character - 1 gay character = no net change in the number of gay characters In fact, they lost a great character in the change!

One of the things I really miss about JSA was the happy, well-adjusted couples: the Garricks, the Scotts, Rick and Jesse, Todd and Damon.

The JSA were, in general, a happy lot Oh, and they made Alan gay but killed his boyfriend off right away. Boo!

I'm looking forward to the upcoming JSA/Infinity one-shots. Maybe we'll get more eventually. I really miss having a team with a sense of history and a positive outlook.

I will definitely be enjoying the Convergence one-shots. They will be a nice look at some of the great runs of the past.

Nothing superhero-y has really grabbed my attention lately. I would like to catch up on Stuff of Legend one of these days, though.

I haven't watched or read anything new in a while. Just sticking to Legion World, really. I do follow Criminal Minds but that is it.

To compensate for my lack of interest in comics as of late, I've been compensating by really getting into movies, especially older classics. It's been a good way to get over my hatred of the Nu52.
