It arrives in stores next month, and I could not be more excited. Interview with writer Kelly Thompson: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=59529

I know, right?!
The two things I really love about this upcoming comic is that they made Jetta Black like she was originally intended to be but she's still from Britain, and now Kimber and Stormer are allowed to actually BE in a relationship instead of just blatantly hinting at it.
They're okay.
They're okay.

Guys, just a head's up for anyone who wants to discuss this topic further.
The artist on this book is no longer "Ross" Campbell.
Because she just announced on twitter that her name's Sophie Campbell, and she's been transitioning for the past year.
Remember to refer to her using the proper pronouns.

Thank you for the good news, Sarky. This is a milestone in the history of comics. And yes, she must be referred to by the proper pronouns.
Re: Stormer, I've always thought of the original trio of Misfits as a human female version of the Seekers from the original Transformers cartoon. Think about it:
Stormer - Thundercracker, the one whose heart really isn't into being evil.
Roxy - Skywarp, the dumb thug.
Pizazz - Starscream, the screeching, power-hungry lunatic.

Um...Ramjet? I honestly had never thought about that. I like Jetta (her showcase episode where she pretends that her family is upper class is a favorite), but I look at the original trio as being perfectly balanced, just as the original trio of Decepticon jets was.

Meanwhile Clash is standing outside the room in the pouring rain:
Clash: Can I be a Seeker too? Pizzazz: Forget it Clash, you're a LOSER!

No, but I'd love to. I'm a fan of his Titans fanart.

I don't think I ever watched Jem, but I saw the commercials frequently while watching other things. Seems it was advertised a lot during an old fave Inspector Gadget, iirc. I think I kinda wanted to watch it, as my interest in girls was just starting to bloom.
But I never got past the "for girls" stigma to give it a chance. Ah, the perils of gender profiling of our youth. I think it was a lot more forbidden for boys to watch, do or play with "girl" things than the reverse. A rare instance where gender discrimination actually worked more against males than females.

Ironically, head writer and show delevoper Christy Marx almost turned down the "Jem" offer because the concept was too "girly" for her taste (she had previously written episodes of "Spider-Man" and "G.I. Joe" -- and I know you're a "G.I. Joe" fan, Lardy, so I'll give you the episode titles: "Countdown for Zartan", "Synthoid Cospiracy", "Captives of Cobra".)

I watched Joe as a kid but not super-avidly. I would say my peak was about the first 20 issues of the Marvel comic, which mostly preceded the show. There are actually few episodes I can easily recall.

I've gotten a few Jem related commissions from Bill. He's done Stormer and Kimber, Stormer and Arsenal from the Titans, Lin-Z, and redesigns of Astral and Graphix for me.

So...it's finally here, aaaaaaaaaand... ...it's a bit underwhelming IMO. Don't get me wrong, Sophie's art is lovely, and Kelly gets the Holograms' and Synergy's voices just right, but GAWD is it decompressed! It takes the whole first issue for Jerrica to first assume the Jem persona. Wouldn't it have worked better to start in medias res and use flashbacks for punctuation?? Well, the Misfits enter the stage next issue. Should be an improvement.

Well, at least it didn't open with a funeral like the first episode did. Although I guess that would've been more of a conversation starter.

My guess is the creative team didn't want to overwhelm the readers who're new to Jem and wanted to simply introduce the Holograms and Synergy via establishing them first in this new series.
Remember the Misfits kind of stole the show the moment they first appeared in the cartoon. Although I'm guessing next issue they're NOT gonna burst in the room on motorcycles shaped like guitars.

LOL Yeah. I haven't watched the show in a while, I'd forgotten about the motorcycles. Will have to go on a Jem marathon, but first I have to reach the midpoint of the Transformers/GoBots thread. Long overdue.
