I think it's one of the more forgettable entries into the franchise. It's not bad by any means, far from it. However, the plot is simply a means to bring Spock back to life, making it more of a plot point in an overall story rather than a self contained work itself. It was a cheap retread of the much better Wrath of Khan and had no interesting ideas of its own.
