Okay, so Starfinger may have been a lame villain, but the grooviest thing about the story that introduced him was the Seven Wonders of the 30th century!

This is one concept that I'd like to see brought back in the new series, with most of the Seven Wonders pretty much intact.

The Fusion Powersphere! The Weather Control Machine! Sun City! The Reverse Waterfall! The Statues of Famous People from throughout History! The Trans-Earth Tunnel! The Laboratory on Stilts!

(Okay, so the last one's kind of dorky, but the rest are pretty cool!)

It might not be too dorky if they could redefine "stilts" - make the lab itself the wonder and the stilts just some supporting structure that elevates the lab.

Well, the point of it was that it was high up in the atmosphere, which allowed them to perform various experiments they couldn't perform on the ground. They could easily make it an orbiting lab or something.

Must have been the result of Ed Hamilton's imagination not being logical enough, EDE shrug

Nah, it's really just typical 60s sci-fi tech that didn't seem so advanced within a few years. Not so different than the cell phones... er... communicators they used on Star Trek.

Wonder what the dictators of today would make of a weapon like the fusion powersphere? Even Bush might buy the concept

Seven Wonders of Century sounds like a Grant Morrison series.

Every head over to Bits and check out Sketchie's groovy renditions of the Seven Wonders of the Thirtieth Century!

Oh, and there's some Legionnaires in swimsuits, too!

"Credit where credit's due....

When I was thinking about what to do with seven models, I went to the SLSH board and did a search for "seven" and I got a couple of hits. One was a thread about the seven deadly sins and another one was EDE's thread about the Seven Wonders of the 30th Century.

So, thank you EDE for the idea!"

So, for the record, I've been thinking more about the Stratosphere Lab, and I'm actually liking the idea of more than I used to!

Why? Because nothing says "the future" like really tall buildings! So now I'm thinking that rather than being on stilts, it could be a lab at the top of the tallest building in the world, a regular spacescraper!

The Mt. Rushmore of Space should have made the list.

What happened to all the sites we consider wonders of the world today? Did none of them survive to the 30th century; or are they simply not considered wonders of the world anymore? I'd like to think that places like Uluru, Machu Picchu, the Great Wall of China, the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower or the Ifugao Rice Terraces still exist a thousand years from now.
