And those people just give everyone else a common enemy.

The role of the archenemy in super-hero literature is always interesting. Sometimes it's someone, like Sinestro for Hal Jordan, who is clearly an opposite number; on the other hand, it can be a pair such as Superman and Luthor who are very different.

My favorite DC hero/arch enemy pair is the Flash and Professor Zoom.

I don't typically like villains, but Catwoman has always been interesting.

I've always preferred heroes, but that's not to say villains can't be intriguing.

The best villains are the ones that make you think. Some have very complicated motives.

My choir director correctly used the word "motive" last night where most people would have used the equally correct "motif".

One of the reasons I like choral singing is that most choristers love words. I've met a lot of fellow grammar nerds through singing in choirs.

I like "grammar nerd". I gave a friend who prefers "grammar queen". The name I don't like at all is "grammar Nazi". Using one's language well is not quite the same thing as plunging the world into war and committing genocide.

Sometimes I think the term Grammar National was invented by someone who did not read up on history.

What does Grammar National mean? Or did you mean "Grammar Nazi"?

I've been called a Grammar Nazi on occasion. I prefer the term "grammar aficionado".

I posted on Facebook about my dislike of "grammar Nazi". A friend commented that even more she dislikes "feminazi". I can't say as I blame her there.

I went to see a play recently, and while it was excellent ... it was about Hitler .. and I thought ... aren't there loads of crazy tyrants we could write plays about?

I ordered a book with a number of alternate history short stories. When it arrived it had a certain figure on the front cover with the usual symbols.
I had been aware there was one story in there focusing on that era. I should have realised that the marketing folks would have latched onto it. They probably went on to work for the History channel. I quietly binned the book unread with a sigh.

I like to think the binned book was not incinerated but went to landfill.
But, it's not something I would have felt like passing on to anyone. Nor was it something I wanted in my home.
