Laura Holt was one of my many fictional role models in grade school.

A good role model is indeed quite important.

Around the same time as Remington Steele, there was also Scarecrow and Mrs. King. I had an even bigger crush on Bruce Boxleitner.

Luke Skywalker was my boyhood idol back in the day and I still kind of look up to Mark Hamill as one of the few class act celebrities.

Original trilogy? Aren't there only three films?

I have never been a Star Wars fan. I guess it started when the original movie first came out when I was in the second grade and it was all the other kids were talking about. When I finally saw it a few years later, my reaction was that it was good, but that it didn't live up to the hype.

I had a similar reaction, Rocky. I actually prefer the best of the Star Wars comics to the movies.

I enjoyed the original trilogy, but I would not say I'm a diehard fan.

I got dragged to Phantom Menace by some friends. I didn't like it at all.

The prequel trilogy is miles apart from the original trilogy.

I do find the retronym Star Wars IV: A New Hope kind of annoying. Back in the day, the first two words were sufficient.

I always did wonder why they decided to start with IV instead of I.

Apparently Lucas had the whole thing planned out even that far back. I can't begin to imagine the execs response to being told that the story was starting with IV. A different time.
I enjoyed Star Wars as a kid. I was bought merchandising and dollies, comics and bubblegum cards.
But it was a huge marketing success at a time when there wasn't anywhere near the same level of competition.
But the enjoyment doesn't stray beyond that into any sort of obsession with it.

I thought too that Star Wars started with IV, but apparently Lucas only came up with the idea during the creation of Empire Strikes Back: http://spinoff.comicbookresources.c...d-the-first-star-wars-become-episode-iv/ But it wasn’t until the first script was finished for the Star Wars sequel that Lucas came upon the idea of prequels. As I pointed out in an earlier Movie Legends Revealed, Lucas came up with the idea of Darth Vader as Luke Skywalker’s father in 1978, after the first draft of the sequel (by the late, great Leigh Brackett) had been finished. It was then that his interest in the backstory of the first Star Wars film grew deeper, as now the saga could be viewed as chronicling Darth Vader’s rise, fall and, finally, his redemption. It was then and only then that Lucas opened up to the idea of establishing that there was a trilogy of stories that took place before the first Star Wars, and that the sequel would be Episode V and not Episode II.

If only Lucas could have foreseen the mess his prequel dream would become...

Eh, he only did the prequels for the money anyway. And in the end, it didn't prevent his franchise from getting bought out by Disney.

The Sound of Thunder, which popularized the Butterfly Effect idea, is one of Ray Bradbury's best stories.

Oh, Ray Bradbury was a class act. I miss him, but I'm also glad we had him for so many decades and that he left such a legacy.

Thank you, Ibby.
I got into Bradbury partly because my mother had been a fan of him growing up, and partly because of the TV miniseries version of The Martian Chronicles. It probably wouldn't hold up very well if I tried to watch it again, but to a child-of-the-80s grade-schooler it was mind-expanding.
