She's even more prefabricated than Madonna, IMO. And her vocal range left the building years ago.

I'm not very well-versed in music so it is hard for me to tell smile one measure I use for a singer is the lyrics of their songs. Which is why Bruno Mars is definitely not a fave.

Eh, Mars is harmless to me, just a retro act bound for Vegas in the next few years.

He IS a good singer though. At least I think he is.

But his lyrics, ugh. Especially the song about making love like gorillas. Because that turns me on so much. puke

Lots of people went APE for that song, though.

Oh, those apes, those silly silly apes.

Come to think of it, a lot of my favorite songs came from the 90s.

Around 1991 or so, I began listening only to public radio, which meant I stopped even trying to keep up with popular music. I'm fairly clueless about it in general.

Back then that was a little more difficult. CDs were new and expensive. My collection at the time was all cassette tapes.

I still have a lot of my cassettes. There's nothing that can quite take the place of a mix tape.

I love the concept of a mix tape, but I do it on iTunes now. Casettes and floppy disks are too unreliable for me.

I know. And I think it's because you're younger than me. Cassettes have sentimental value to a lot of people of my generation.

That was originally entitled "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke". It was written for a rather famous Coca-Cola commercial:

It was remade with a Christmas theme a few years later:

I knew about the commercial, but didn't know it was specifically written for Coke. I'm glad it found its way into other media.

A few decades later, it was used to help introduce Coke Zero:

Coke Zero is my favorite diet soda. I like it much better than Diet Coke.
